WCG and Windows 8

Hi,

I've installed Windows 8 on my computer and now I can't install WCG anymore, because I receive an error message telling that the agente coundn't create a group for the agente software.

Is there anything I could or should I go back to Windows 7?

Thanks,

Destrogiro.

Re: WCG and Windows 8

Yes, the issue with W8 is known with the developers and they are in fact holding off until something called "Metro" has crystallized out. Don't presently know of any workaround.

Your best bet is probably reverting to client version 5.10.45 which does not require the special limited rights BOINC accounts.

edit: Seems the rush to get the answer is over ;-) According another "current" thread on W8, others have succeeded to install as service, which is still odd. Suspect they upgraded the OS with a preexisting install and "BOINC" accounts. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,31739_offset,0

Re: WCG and Windows 8

Sek....you can get BOINC to work without having a previous install. I did it when I had W8 Developer installed on a test system. There was a specific version of BOINC you had to download for this purpose that had a feature changed to allow it to work or something. (I wish I bookmarked the page where I read it) I will try and track down which copy I had.

Edit: Here is your answer I believe: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6953

Edit2: Looking back through my records, I was indeed using BOINC 6.12.38 for this test. And yes, I had to install as a service.
