Hi,
I've installed Windows 8 on my computer and now I can't install WCG anymore, because I receive an error message telling that the agente coundn't create a group for the agente software. Is there anything I could or should I go back to Windows 7? Thanks, Destrogiro. |

Yes, the issue with W8 is known with the developers and they are in fact holding off until something called "Metro" has crystallized out. Don't presently know of any workaround.
----------------------------------------Your best bet is probably reverting to client version 5.10.45 which does not require the special limited rights BOINC accounts. --//-- edit: Seems the rush to get the answer is over ;-) According another "current" thread on W8, others have succeeded to install as service, which is still odd. Suspect they upgraded the OS with a preexisting install and "BOINC" accounts. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,31739_offset,0 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 27, 2011 8:29:50 AM] |

Sek....you can get BOINC to work without having a previous install. I did it when I had W8 Developer installed on a test system. There was a specific version of BOINC you had to download for this purpose that had a feature changed to allow it to work or something. (I wish I bookmarked the page where I read it) I will try and track down which copy I had.
----------------------------------------Edit: Here is your answer I believe: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6953 Edit2: Looking back through my records, I was indeed using BOINC 6.12.38 for this test. And yes, I had to install as a service. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Oct 27, 2011 9:51:05 PM] |
