![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It is a fine Tuesday morning here. More than a bit muddy at the moment. I spend most of yesterday digging up a patch where I had this terrific Live Oak growing. It died of Oak Wilt. I think it had a lousy owner that, while trimming it, failed to paint over one of the wombs. So sad. It was a beautiful thing. Now I am digging a place to put another close by. There are three layers of rock there and it is really hard on an old man like me to break through them all. I have been using shovels, picks and a sledge hammer. Along with my oversized Lawn Tractor. I have the cotton picking thing way too big but only about half of the bottom layer of hard rock taken out. Then we had a hard 1" rain last night. So, it looks like it will be after Thanksgiving before I can get back down in there. It is about 7' by 12' by 4.5' deep and has close to a foot of water in the bottom. ![]() I would like to plant another Live Oak tree in there but am worried about the Oak Wilt still being in the ground. More research is called for prior to selecting the replacement. It is in a place that is very convenient to water so between the water available below the bottom layer of rocks and the underground water piping, I should be able to keep it alive even in the next long hot dry summer. ![]() In other news: I am still trying to find someone that can give me some good advice about video cards to apply to the, in theory, upcoming GPU project. I would like to get some experience with GPUs prior to putting one to work on a new project. Any leads would be appreciated. ![]() I am so jealous of our friends here on Solar. I may have to cut back on my consumption of power since I can't seem to find an economically reasonable alternative to getting solar or wind and the house is about as thermally efficient as it is going to get (without major expense). I wish Intel would go ahead and put out a low wattage 8 core with HT at a reasonable price. That would help some. These machines help keep it warm on the colder days and nights but are a nightmare in the summer. I suppose the aforementioned GPUs will just make things worse. ![]() I am off badge hunting on the GFAM project. Looks like I can go back to HCC Thanksgiving. I doubt that I will be able to get to my goal of 100 years on HCC since I am only at 88 years now and " like sands through the hour glass, these are the days of our lives"... Is that show even on any more? Oh well. The ramblings of an old man. (I had a birthday the other day and it was a nice round number) ![]() Everyone have a great day today and for the next few at least. ![]() |

Well, belated Happy Birthday RT! From what I recall hearing, GPU cards are comparative blast furnaces with the heat. I think I'd wait to see what WCG decides to support first before investing in any though. They could go with the ATI cards like MilkyWay or the Nvidia cards like GPUGrid. I think one of the problems with GPUGrid was that they seemed to only want to support the latest cards so you didn't get a lot of time to get a return on your investment. My memory could be wrong though.
