Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

According to this post new servers were added a few months back...

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,31492

I received today the following:

Our records show that you have not returned a result since July 23, 2011.

I've been getting this ever since.

22/09/2011 12:15:21 PM World Community Grid Requesting new tasks
22/09/2011 12:15:23 PM Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
22/09/2011 12:15:23 PM World Community Grid Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server
22/09/2011 12:15:25 PM Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

I expect a lot of others have too.

Given the I run another project without fail, I have always thought your servers were having trouble and didn't bother looking into it.

The advice is to have the firewall allow for the new IP addresses. Well, I've checked the firewall and there's no reference to the BOINC application, specific IP addresses or the like. (Win7).

I'm inside a (secure) network and am using proxy to get out.

What should I do next?

Hello dazlari,
Here are some more posts to look at:
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,25668
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,22356

If nothing seems to work, please post the start of the Messages tab up through the error message.

Lawrence

Re: Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

I too am having this problem, however I'm not in a corp/edu network with a proxy, I'm just a regular home user. The BOINC client says internet access is ok and project servers may be down, however it's been like this for a few days now and I can't see anything on the forums about a server issue...? I'm not sure what to do, I've turned windows FW off on my pc, and added the entries from that referenced thread into my hosts file just to be sure...

oh, and I've tried rebooting and resetting the project, but no change.

Hi,

Same as what was asked of dazlari, please post copy of your message log from start to when the connection errors appear. It may not be your computer, rather your router/modem that needs a power cycle. Last week could not get another program to connect to WCG, constantly timing out until I switch the router off, waited a minute to be sure to get a new IP from the ISP and then powered on.

Re: Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

Have updated to the latest BOINC version (6.12.34), which doesn't have a 'messages' tab, so am currently unsure where to find the log files that you're asking for.

However, I've just connected to another project and it worked fine first time. Tasks have been downloaded and are processing as I type. Problem is def with WCG, not my local setup...

Re: Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

6.12.34 is a problem in and of itself to a number of members who then reverting to 6.12.33 have fine communication [see the "http error 0" thread]... but that's not your problem. Resolution is not easy if middle of fact finding the version is being flipped.

The message log is now called Event log and moved onto the advanced menu, but only for advanced crunchers.

Re: Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

Did you boot your modem/router?

knreed posted a trick somewhere to force download from the old IP, not the repetitive file download servers. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost_post,337211 ... Maybe works, though see no reason why this sudden change.

At any rate, suggest you fetch 6.12.33 (take the 6.12.34 download address and change the number), and try that too.
