I don't know what has happened, however yesterday and again today I am suddenly getting the box on my desktop and in EVERY application I run on both of my computers wanting to know if I want to open the BOINC manager.
----------------------------------------No I don't and this annoying message has popped up 3 times while I am trying to add this message. Are other BOINC/WCG users running into this problem? If so, what can be done to shut this message down. And, no, I am not putting my cursor on the BOINC icon in the systray. (The darn* thing just popped up again!!!) Never heard of this one! 1) Reboot. 2) Reinstall from WCG. 3) ??? uninstall / reinstall. One of those ought to work. Lawrence |

The problem is on two machines, both running Windows 7 - 64 bit.
----------------------------------------Computer 1: WCG-BOINC 6.10.58 (new install today to try to get rid of the problem - didn't work.) Computer 2: BOINC 6.10.60 Computers are not networked although they are connected via cable to the same Verizon FiOS router. I've tried rebooting and that didn't solve the problem. It does appear to have slowed down, but is still occurring. ![]() ![]() "Everything in moderation, including moderation" -- Mark Twain |

Now why should it be asking if you want to open the BOINC Manager? Just what does Task Manager show on your system? How is BOINC installed? Are the projects all running correctly? My system never asks me anything like that. In fact, I do not think that there is anything in BOINC that asks that question. It sounds like a higher-level system function asking. Has anybody else ever run into something like this? Lawrence |

Sounds like the .exe file extension is associated with Boinc Manager
![]() Might help to know exactly what the message says... |

The item/block that was showing up on my screen was the same thing you see if you right-click on the BOINC icon in the systray. The 4 options are:
----------------------------------------. Open BOINC Manager . Snooze . About BOINC Manager . Exit If I would left-click anywhere on the desktop, or within the screen of whatever application I was in, the block would close out. I put the previous paragraph in the past-tense as the problem seems to have disappeared as suddenly as it started. Hopefully it is gone forever and I/we will probably never know what was causing this "problem." Perhaps it was a gremlin that wanted to come in from all the rain we have been having in this area? At least for now I'm going to consider this closed but will repost if the problem rears its ugly head in the future. Thanks to all for the assistance. Question: Where to I go to determine the following: see if you nave network protection acess turned on in your action center. I use to get it but I unchecked that and no problems since. gl ![]() "Everything in moderation, including moderation" -- Mark Twain [Edit 1 times, last edit by osugrad at Sep 22, 2011 4:40:22 PM] |

I needed a dictionary, and filled in my blanks:
See if your native network protection access is turned on in your action center. I used to get it but I unchecked that and no problems since. gl MS has a video up, till now having run W7 for 2 years did not know what it was either: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/action-center --//-- P.S. A nave is the Italian for ship little guess needed where navy originates from ;>) |
