Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Just one GTS450 with 512MB, and only as long as it will run well on linux without too much desktop lag.
But if it does run well, I can have it crunching 24/7.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

I'm sure the WCG will implement thread base priority of around 6 to avoid lag, and I'm sure OpenCL is not overly demanding anyway. I'm also sure that the repositories have recent enough drivers to support most cards, including your GTS450. We will have to wait and see if the default setting of, don't use the GPU when the system is in use will work well (checkpointing and LAIM), but I guess it will.

Since MW has went down, again, I decided to decommission/retire my HD5850, during my rebuild, so it might never be used here or anywhere else straight face

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

With all the GPU talk going on, I was wondering what kind of GPU's people would bring to the table. Currently, I have the following and will add more or upgrade to better as I can afford.

In my farm:
Radeon 4350 512MB
nVidia 8400GS 1GB
nVidia 8400 128MB (X2)
nVidia 210 512MB (X2)

On the repair table:
nVidia 8400GS 512MB swollen capacitors
nVidia 8400GS 256MB dead heat sink fan

Borged systems:
Radeon HD 2300 integrated 256MB (X3)
nVidia 8400GS integrated 128MB
nVidia GT 430 1GB
nVidia 210 1GB

Edit: updated for systems that were upgraded
Edit2: A bit off thread topic but very informative for those seeking more info on CUDA vs. OpenCL: http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1005/1005.2581.pdf
Edit3: Added a needs repair list

My GPU is:

CAL AMD Radeon HD 6x00 series (Turks) (1024MB) driver: 1.4.1546

Any good?? confused

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

I haven't had a graphics card in my last couple of PCs - used a 780G chipset with a Phenom, and now have an i5 2500K and use it's integrated GPU (I use a console for gaming). If WCG started running GPU based projects though, I'd get a new 22nm card when they're released, or if I was buying now I'd add a GeForce 580.

Hi allansud,
probably will take a little bit more time to use your great GPU in WCG projects under BOINC clients... there are some discussions, unofficial coments, and so on here... but until now, unfortunatelly, it was just steam and desires from a lot of crunchers like us...

But, you can find some great projects running in GPU's with BOINC clients versions, which could use very well your GPU, like SETI and GPU.org for example (there are more, but this ones have some time since start and some intersting foruns to find answers to doubts).

Anyway, you won't find any great support in grid computing projects around the world using GPU or CPU, at least you won't find teh kind of special and supportive help that you can have here in WCG.

And, if you add the security aspects and combine the effective forums discussions with good information, level and answers to questions that we have here, probably you never will go out to other BOINC project and will remain in WCG only, even if just to processing using CPU's (fro while...).

After more than 7 years of experience here, and with more than 16 years of experiences across many kinds of agents, clients, systems, platforms, programs, projects and structures using many kinds of technologies since distribute computing til grid computing technologies, I just give up from all other projetcs using BOINC (despite of many be very importants to humanity, serious and supportives too) and put all of my efforts and focus on just processing as many as possible all the WCG projects. Until now, it's works very very well for me !

Good luck, have great choices with or without GPU usage, and have a nice night ! wink cool good luck

Check the link out. It is a bit outdated now but is still helpful. Aqua and DNETC are no longer active projects and should be removed from the list.

Edit: Also, GIBA... GPU.org? Did you mean http://www.gpugrid.net/ by chance? If so, they don't use ATI cards presently, but supposedly are working on it.
