Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Thread hijacking is considered rude. Let's keep this one on topic which is a list of what people (who are interested) will bring to WCG if and when it happens.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

And most $200 GPUs would run rings around a i7-2600K.

Using how many watts of power and producing how much heat? Why are we even having this discussion? Until WCG offers GPU support it's an exercise in futility.

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AT...ands_.28HD_7xxx.29_series
The first card, 7570 should sell for under 100$, and has a TDP almost half of i7-2600K.
Related to the processing power, I will let you have the pleasure of finding out.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

With all the GPU talk going on, I was wondering what kind of GPU's people would bring to the table. Currently, I have the following and will add more or upgrade to better as I can afford.

In my farm:
Radeon 4350 512MB
nVidia 8400GS 1GB
nVidia 8400 128MB (X2)
nVidia 210 512MB (X2)
nVidia 8400GS 512MB

Borged systems:
Radeon HD 2300 integrated 256MB (X3)
nVidia 8400GS integrated 128MB
nVidia GT 430 1GB
nVidia 210 1GB

Edit: updated for systems that were upgraded

I offer this: CAL AMD Radeon HD 6x00 series (Turks) (1024MB) driver: 1.4.1385. Not being a technical wiz, I'm not sure how good it is ...or how it compares with some of the impressive looking hardware some folks have.

Interesting but since non of my current mobos support PCI-E 3.0 that would just add more to the start up costs. I understand they are suppose to be backward compatible but I wonder how much performance would be lost. I will continue to wait and see since non of this matters until WCG supports GPU computing.

Since someone asked about those of us who said none and we answered I don't consider that hijacking the thread.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Re PCIE3: Top GPU's will see some benefit, but the older they are the less benefit there is to be had; many present cards would not benefit one iota from PCIE3, and the lesser 7000 cards might experience a negligible influence over PCIE2. Clearly PCIE3 is needed for the Top GPU's, or it would not even exist, but for lesser cards the significance wanes.
