CPU Time problems [RESOLVED]

I suddenly seem to have started getting a series of WUs with CPU Time Problems.

They vary from one which was very reluctant to start registering any CPU and even after an hour of elapsed time there was under a minute of CPU Time registered.

Another was only registering half of the elapsed time as CPU Time.

Others stopped registering extra CPU Time with an hour Remaining.

I have never noticed any problems with MD before.

Can anyone help, please? The WU identities should still be available.

Mike

Re: CPU Time problems

Mike, there have been very few problems with HCMD2 and what you describe does not ring any bell for me.
You will have to tell us more. Please -
1. Give us the WU names to let us see if they have anything in common
2. Tell us if they were running all in the same machine
3. Copy the start of your message log from the line "Starting BOINC client version ...."
down to the lines "Restarting task CMD2...." and copy them in your next post.
4. Repeat step 3 for each machine if the answer to step 2 is No.

Read you later...

Thanks for the response. I have only one machine which is dual core. The full log gives you the section you wanted and the WUs I have been working on.

Re: CPU Time problems

Hello Mike.Gibson,
Your BOINC tasks should be lowest priority. So check Task Manager to make sure that BOINC is using almost all your CPU cycles. You might have something else running.

Re: CPU Time problems

Thanks, Lawrence

I think you have diagnosed the problem. I opened Task Manager to check and found that Western Digital File Management Engine is taking 35-45% of CPU with a total of 50% approx. for the 2 HCMD2 WUs (Dual Core).

I don't know why that has happened as my external drives are disconnected and I haven't had the situation before.

All 3 processes are set to low priority.

Is it worth trying a Restart to see if that clears WDFME?

Re: CPU Time problems

If that does not hurt your normal activity a reboot is often the cure to such "mysterious" problems. smile

Re: CPU Time problems

Thanks, both of you.

The Restart has cleared WDFME and HCMD2 is now operating on 80%-95% of CPU.
