Re: Linux for the Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project?

I only have one linux box at the moment and I'm getting 29.57 points per hour vs. 27.75 on a similarly clocked windows machine.

Oddly, BoincTasks reports the CPU % on linux at 88ish% with 99ish% on windows.

Re: Linux for the Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project?

Linux has less overhead compared to window. My linux box has a large cache of HCC finishing up today so will see how that one does when it starts crunching this project. Linux also gets less points compared to windows.

@txyankee. I use CoolMaster Hyper 212+ CPU coolers on mine. They are reasonably priced and do a very good job.

They are on the tall side so I would take some measurements inside your case to see if it would fit. If not, shop around, there are many excellent ones on the market. Almost anything would be better than the stock cooler.

Re: Linux for the Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project?

Just for information !
After over 20 CPU days with DSFL mostly computed by Linux based hosts:
  • Ubuntu 10.04 x64 is really OK with DSFL, no errored nor invalid WUs
  • BoincTasks shows a CPU efficiency over 99%
  • I did not notice particular CPU temperature increasing

I have also one windows host computing for DSFL without any problem.
Regarding the mentioned problem with the Linux server, I would recommend to reboot it; since I did experience a similar issue some weeks ago with DDDT2.
Cheers,
Yves

All 7 DSFL WUs that I've run on my Phenom II X4 910e under Ubuntu 10.04.3 64-bit have completed successfully (6 valid, 1 PV). Also both WUs that I've gotten on my AMD Fusion machine running Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit have completed and validated.

So neither AMD CPU, nor 64-bit Linux, nor their combination, torpedoes DSFL. I'm running desktop Ubuntu rather than the server version, by the way.
