Is anyone else seeing lots of "invalid" results?
----------------------------------------This PC is rock solid, no errors, or invalids on other WCG apps (nor on any other BOINC projects). Currently running between 1-3 CEP2 tasks and the balance (5-7) on DSFL. No interuptions in any way, no priority jumping, no suspend, no shutting down, no power cycling. Runtimes are very close to wingpersons' runtimes. Result detail comparision show no differences other than CPU times. Results of my first 39 WUs no errors 25 pending 3 valid 3 invalid 8 inconclusive I'm concerned these inconclusives are going to turn to "invalid" (they all have so far on this project) ![]() Win7 SP1 64 bit Home Premium BOINC Manager 6.12.33 i7-920 (slight overclock to 3.2 GHz) HT = ON 6 GB RAM I'll try a controlled shutdown with a full power cycle and report back later today as soon as I start to see what happens with tasks that get started after that. [edit] Well, seems like a full power cycle did the trick. None of the WUs I have processed since then have gone inconclusive, much less invalid. I still have the older inconclusives turning to invalid but time to move on and crunch some more ![]() [/edit] ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by mecole at Sep 4, 2011 11:05:39 AM] |

FWIW I have a few inconclusives that were reported inconclusive by the wingman also. There is a third copy in progress by another wingman. Waiting to see what happens to them.

With a computer with very similar specs to yours
Have returned 52 valid but have also had 5 inconclusives that have all turned invalid. Rock solid on everything else, but a 10 % waste is in my opinion too high (over 30 hours). So have had to unfortunately de select this one. The logs look to an untrained eye identical to those wingmen that were valid. Chris. As a matter of interest what is meant by a 'full power cycle'? |

FWIW I have a few inconclusives that were reported inconclusive by the wingman also. There is a third copy in progress by another wingman. Waiting to see what happens to them. Let's summarize the steps on Inconlusive v.v. a quorum 2 validation process. - First one to be returned, if without an immediate error signal gets marked ''Pending Validation'' - Second one to be returned, if without an immediate error signal gets marked ''Pending Validation'' too. - When the validator gets down to comparing the 2 results it's checks on a raft of points. If neither 2 compare good and both differ, but not conclusively, they get marked ''Inconclusive'' at the same time. A 3rd copy is send out and on return will be compared with the original 2. Usually in that ''revalidation'' process, one gets marked Invalid, and those that compare well marked Valid. The Zero Redundancy project validation process is different. The initial single task returned is tested for again a whole raft of parms PLUS some anti tamper code. If it passes, the result is declared Valid, if not, Inconclusive. Then the second copy would get send out. If returned and it passes the ''alone'' test, but does not match the original, the original is declared ''Invalid''. Devices with too many ''Invalid'' will see their WU's being send out in "init distro 2" till the issue is resolved. At one time there was an off-line discussion on the term ''Inconclusive" and how to name it better. One proposal was the mark "Pending Revalidation", which signals that another copy is required. Think with this having been over 2 years ago, it was put to bed or deemed inconsistent with what other projects do, though think to recollect that WCG is the only project using the intermediate Inconclusive state at all. --//-- P.S. Hello TylerChris,
I suspect that a 'full power cycle' is a reboot that also reboots other equipment (such as the router) by turning off the entire power strip. There has been some recent news posted in Known Issues at: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,31690 It may be safe to get back into the water now. ![]() Lawrence |

Hello TylerChris, I suspect that a 'full power cycle' is a reboot that also reboots other equipment (such as the router) by turning off the entire power strip. Hi Lawrence thanks, ![]() Was aware of the Known Issues was caught up in it as well. Changed prefs back to my old favourites HFCC and Faah now have more inconclusives and pending wus than I can shake a stick at. Forgot the machine was now 'unreliable' Have stuck a couple of the new units in the queue but am wondering if this project has a problem with hyperthreading quads or the fact running upto 4 cep2 units at the same time is an issue. In the last 3 lots of Betas ran 8 together each time not a single problem, all validated. Cheers Chris. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 5, 2011 6:50:27 PM] |
