So even if I get say 3 more boxes all with 2600k's oced to 4.6ghz all with 4 gig of 2200mhz ram all running 24/7 that wouldnt be enough to get me into the top 1000 for any title even after 2 years of that? I think it would get you there. I've only got 7 systems here. 3 - Duo's 2 - Quad's 1 - i7 920 1 - 2600k and I'm in the top 1000.    |

Well, I've no idea how fast a 2600K is... But, atleast going by boincstats, at the moment top-1000 equals roughly 4.5 M cobblestones, while based on current production top-1000 equals 5166 cobblestones/day. A few accounts also having some old UD-client-points isn't included, but guess this has negligible effect for reaching top-1000. So, to make it simple and assumes you starts at zero, just to reach the current target of 4.5 M in 2 years, you'll need to produce 6165 Cobblestones/day. But in 2 years someone producing 5166 cobblestones/day can have increased their score with 3.77M, bringing the target up to 8.3M, and this means you'll need to produce 11.4 k per day. Since there's currently some within top-1000 that's stopped crunching you'll need less than 11.4k cobblestones/day, if assumes none of the other users increases their production over 2 years that is... If each 2600K can manage to produce atleast 4000 cobblestones/day, you should reach top-1000 with 3 of these within 2 years...  "I make so many mistakes. I like your math Ingleside, but the grid changes far too rapidly for a two year prediction. Three of those machines would get someone off to a good start, but they will never reach the top 1000. That would require either adding more machines over time or upgrading the systems every six months or so.

I like your math Ingleside, but the grid changes far too rapidly for a two year prediction. Three of those machines would get someone off to a good start, but they will never reach the top 1000. That would require either adding more machines over time or upgrading the systems every six months or so. I keep adding more processing power all the time and I'm barely staying even at 1098. I'm using (mostly) three i7 machines....
----------------------------------------I started with 4 of them and sometimes there will be 2 or 3 more (really rarely) but mostly 3 are present by crunching 24x7.... starting in Nov 2009.... I reached #461 at the moment....

I'm using (mostly) three i7 machines.... I started with 4 of them and sometimes there will be 2 or 3 more (really rarely) but mostly 3 are present by crunching 24x7.... starting in Nov 2009.... I reached #461 at the moment.... Interesting...so it's not like you need a crazy amount of boxes running to hit the top 1000, i'll get there...it's a good aim :) But I would like people to know i'm all about finding a cure more so than the rank, but this ranking thing is fun and cool too :) |

Depending on which projects you run a 2600k running @ 4.5Ghz. will get you about 40,000 PPD. Save some money on the ram. I've done a lot of testing and there is no measurable difference on any ram running above 1333MGz. That should get you to the top 1,000 but I have no idea how long it would take you. 120,000+ PPD shouldn't take too long.  Good luck.

PIII-800 with Win XP Dual-Dual Opteron 2.8Ghz - Ubuntu 64bit Athlon XP 2.15 with Win XP i7 Q720 (1.6 ghz, 8 threads) with Win 7 AMD E-350 (1.6 ghz, 2 threads) with Win 7 Phenom II X6 1100T AMD X2 (1.8, 2 threads) with Win 7 Some old laptop I sent with my mother-in-law to Guatemala, 1 or 2 threads Intel quad something, 4 threads (this one hasn't checked in for weeks, probably summer vacation) That should cover the active ones. My Grid says I have 51 devices and considering how many years I've been doing this with continual upgrades, that's not hard to imagine. The PIII is the next one scheduled for an upgrade, but as long as it's running, I hate the thought of killing it. Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |
