Is there a way to make the computers behind a firewall be part of the grid ??

Hi ,

I am a new member to the grid. I installed Boinc agent on my workstations.
But when I installed it on my servers in lab the agent failed to connect rightly so as there is a firewall and they can't connect.

Since I can't change firewall as it is out of control , is there a way to still make use of those machines in the Grid ??
like can I export job files from my laptop agent or someplace else like the server and import them in these machines agents which are behind firewall and then do the same export /import of results and then upload it via my laptop .. ?

Thanks

Hi,

Exporting is not recommended... it requires meticulous administration and handling [stopping and starting different client installs from the host that does the connection to the servers and enabling / disabling the client network function in the transit phases]. The method is called "sneaker netting". If you search the intertubes or our forums you'll find prior discussion. Probably a client installed to a USB memory stick, one for every off-line device is the easiest.

The firewall has to be open for port 80 and 443 for a secure connection. If you know the FW requirements, you can enter those settings into the BOINC Options screen. Mind you, I'd not run BOINC on any mission critical lab computer... whilst ''my'' sounds like you're in charge and the boss is OK, the users rely on them.

Hi, Thanks I will search the intertubes of the forum. I used the terms like 'Lab' and 'servers' it is actually a place with no internet or intranet for that matter with standalone old machines used for my some intermittent work etc..
