Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 52 smilesmile

@dkt- Very cool. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo jelous. biggrin

nanoprobe, I don't know what team you are on, but it would be so cool to have you on the MyOnlineTeam team. We have been close to a million points a day and, from what I saw when doing a compare with your i d, you are averaging over 84,000 points a day. I see that RT has an average of 50,990 points a day.

My current team but nothing is forever. biggrin

As for any jealousy, I am jealous of the way you are able to generate such computing power. I have been retired for a year and a half so I have the time (if not the money) to change my systems. I also need to get the knowledge I need to make any such changes unless it is just adding a new computer. I don't know how many displays I want to have active - I have 4 now. Any ideas are appreciated.

I run most of mine with no active monitor. I use teamviewer to remote into them when needed and boinctasks to keep up with the crunching part. If needed I can fire up a monitor and use my KVM switch to look at each one individually. I like to update things as I can without upping my electric bill but I doubt there will be any in the near future due to a lack of fun tickets. If you ever have any questions I'd be more than happy to help.

We need all the help we can get--i dont know how i missed this post--This month is join for FREE month so nanoprobe you should take advantage of this enormous opportunity--I would even plant a tree in the front of my field in your name and send a picture--on another note i have several switches that run four computers on a single monitor-- smile --this offer is open to all new members of MOT wink Also i will send a FREE four way switch to any new crunchers for MOT--this month only so please hurry before my new love checks our bank account--i am serious!! wink

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 52 smilesmile

coffee coffee coffeeGood Morning MOT and Visitors coffee coffee coffee

Congratulations xroule and keithhenry! applause applause

It is hump day and all seems to be normal around here. Part of the problem that I was having with unexplained throughput variation was indeed explained after I did some digging around. blushing Oops.

You know Gerald...you are right... I had forgotten that this is JOIN MOT FOR FREE MONTH. Good catch!! biggrin Tell your new love "Howdy" from Texas. smile

Like Gerald and others, I have a 4-way KVM switch so I have four machines setting there with only one Keyboard, Display and mouse that switches at the touch of a button to any one of the machines.

I also use Teamviewer for the more distant computers. I have them set up with a "whitelist" so that all attempts to logon to them will be rejected unless they come from one of my 2 computers listed in said whitelist (one my main operational machine and one is my netbook that I take on my occasional travels).

Everyone have another great day.

I will look for KVM to see if I can find that switch you refer to. My only question you might be able to answer is in regards to the keyboard and mouse. On one of my systems I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse, and I would want to use that setup for the switch if I could. I don't know how easy/doable that would be. The mouse/keyboard are from Logitech,

Hi dkt. I just wanted to say to be very careful when ordering a KVM switch. They come in very different types. Generally the 2-4 ports ($20-$50) are wired USB/VGA only (some are still PS/2). Wireless and cable adapters will usually not work and if you have HDMI will need a monitor adapter to VGA. 8 or more port will set up back $300 and up. If you want wireless and/or HDMI they can be over $1,000. I have used this company a couple of times with good results. They have some utilities to help you figure out what you need.

Just be absolutely sure that whatever you buy supports the features you want to use or you will be disappointed.

Cheers from Taos, NM
peace

FWIW I use this KVM switch on my system. It has both PS/2 and USB ports. I'm currently using a PS/2 keyboard with a USB mouse and it has worked flawlessly. If your wireless USB mouse/keyboard combo uses just 1 sensor than I can't say for sure if that will work.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 52 smilesmile

I use this KVM Switch Making Assumptions here:
1) you have USB hookups on all computers to hook up to the KVM switch.
2) You have a VGA output on all computers to hook up to the KVM switch.
3) You have a display that has a VGA input port.

That being the case, I think you have it made. I think (Though I cannot prove) that you are in tall Cotton (good to go) using your wireless keyboard and mouse.

The reason that I say that is that the KVM is simply a switch. It switches the ports to and from computers...regarless of what is on the KVM port. e.g. you should be able to hook up your little transmitter for the keyboard and mouse to one of the outlets on the KVM and whatever else you want on the other.... e.g. you should be able to hook up a VGA (able) monitor, the logictech transmitter and say a thumbdrive on the other... then the Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor and a thumbdrive would be switched. Now... I have never tried it but would think that it should work.

I just tried it on my rig with a wireless mouse and it works like a charm...no problems (Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000) I still had the USB keyboard on there though.
