Connection problem on WIndows Server 2008

Hi there,
I have tried searching for this on the forums but I always end up with hundreds of hits which aren’t really relavent to my problem.

Basically, I am trying to intall WCG on a machine running Windows Server 2008 SP2.
From what I could glean from the forums, I needed to use an older version of boinc and so using boinc 5.8.16, I got Boinc to install once I had inputted all the right passwords etc.
Then I set my proxy to http://proxy..../proxy2.pac and the port to 12080 as as specified in the proxy file.
Finally, when I come to attach to a project, WCG in this case, I put in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org as my URL and I always get an error message saying that the project is temporarily unavailable.
What am I doing wrong?

Using 5.8.16 is only required if its a DC. Is it?
Can you attache to other projects?

Try configuring worldcommunitygrid.org as a safe site in your browser (security not required), and add the new WCG IP addresses to your firewall exceptions (if you have a firewall).

If you're in a domain, use v5.10.45 instead, otherwise you can use the normal BOINC-client.

WCG uses https, so make sure the proxy also can handle https and not only normal http.

If it's not a Domain Controller, just a member server on a domain, 6.10.58 works.

Hi, Koshuu Shi, welcome to WCG,

Your proxy and or ''on system'' firewall [if any] has to be tuned to let outward traffic over port 443 through for a secure handshake, the https that Ingleside mentions

If really not getting through, we can tell you what config debug log flags to set then asking you to post the client message log.

What we'd like is for you going through the attach process once more, *after booting* [when you can boot your server], then post from BOINC Manager all messages from the top. [old are in the BOINC data dir stdoutdae.txt file.

Superfluous to what can be guessed, plz confirm that the boinc.exe process is loaded and the BOINC Manager [Advanced view] right bottom does say it's connected to localhost.

Re: Connection problem on WIndows Server 2008

Thanks guys.
I found 5.10.45 and will try that.
The problem I have is that I am not very computer literate and the computer is all in Japanese which does not help. No one in my work place is computer savvy although they are fine with me putting WCG on the server.
So, I have to do this on my own in Japanese that I don't understand.

I tried other versions of WCG and Boinc but I could never get it to install as (If I remember rightly) it could not create some sort of group. With 5.8.16, I could get a lot further and get it to install.

I will try all the suggestions as best I can.
