Hi Everyone,
I really appreciate your thorough and rapid responses. Excellent thoughts. In order inquired: Annhani: 1. Mainly Water (300days), Proteome (250d), Fight Aids (230d), etc. CEP only 70d. I run one PowerEdge2950 with Raid O SAS drives and it only has a ~60% runtime. 1a. Haven't seen "exit with no file" in the past. Will look closer. mfbabb2: 2. Resource Manager always says 100% all the time for every machine. Is this not the case? 2a. Interesting. Will try it on some of the identical Core2's and the n the 3 laptops. I've been tracking temps with SpeedFan and cores run in the 40's degC, low 30's on the PowerEdge. Is that overheating? mecole: 3. Both local pref and website are for 100% CPU, etc. When does one override the other? Seke Rob: Thank you for contributing so much to this forum. 4. "easy max" set upon configuration for all machines. 4a. In results tab across different machines, claimed is typically only 60-85% of granted credit. Wouldn't this be the other way around? 4aa. Download BOINCTasks. Will montor. 4b. Nice that explains a lot on the laptops. I've seen laptop CPU benchmark go down 90% when hot, prompting a voluntary shutdown. I'm in the Northeast, with the AC set at 71, and I got howlers for fans without being gamerlike. Still, compressed air can't hurt. 4c. I have 1-2GB per core. By swap space do u mean page file. I have it at 75% across the board. My machines only used 40-60% of RAM despite letting them run 80 while in use, 90% when away. Should I turn down my % page file swap? Thanks SekeRob. kffitzgerald: 5. I'll give it a shot. I have some small SATA's kicking around. 5. What are burnout temps for intel xeon quadcore, and core2duo chips? lawrencehardin: 6. Mine says: "reading preference override file. I assume that is reading local preferences? Both are set to 100% CPU runtime. bob_voxc, 7. I'm usually checked as run always, but suspend if.. is set to zero anyways. Thank you all. I'm going to implement these figures and post results in a week or so after some good data. later |

I consistently run laptops at 62C to 78C -- above that CPUs cycle Hz way down.
----------------------------------------Another thing to look at is if you are short of memory (RAM) and are swapping to disk a lot.
