Hi all!
I have my client set to "Maximum Output: Set my profile so that it will do the maximum amount of research possible on my computer" in the device profile settings. Is that the best setting to have it on to get the most work done? |

Hi,
----------------------------------------There's a vast range of posts on the forums covering this... Swap File tweaks, RAM Disk use, splitting OS and BOINC data_dir over 2 physically separate disks... OCing the CPU, better timings of RAM, tweaking the OS itself or switch to Linux, in dual boot for sciences that run faster under that OS, which is piece of cake these days. There's simply is no shortlist, but the Maximum Output profile selection is definitely a "quick and easy" to make sure the client does use every spare cycle when the computer is on. The client needs to communicate one time after a profile change to fetch the new settings from the server, in case you do not observe the changes kicking in [footnote on profile pages]. --//-- edit: vast, not fast [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 13, 2011 10:28:41 AM] |

Thanks sir. I upgraded the projects list that I want to be involved in and ticked all the boxes but it's not started getting new projects for that yet, how long will it take?

Seroph4x,
If you used ''default'' profile in the Device Manager or My Projects, which if last used, overrides, overwrites, all profiles, then you should be set to get them, but there has to be space in the client cache [additional buffer] to get them sooner, else the client will just continue computing what it has and fetches new work, rather randomly within your selection, when the minimum level has been reached. Long as your client is crunching, things will be fine. Let us know if in time still nothing changes. Of course, a client must meet minimum requirements for each of the sciences... CEP2 e.g. has to be opted in and then 1GB RAM is what has to be available to BOINC. --//-- |
