I got the email about why I could not help with community grid, but while it said give a moment to respond for reason for uninstall, it did not say where, so I imagine you are missing a lot of reasons for asking, but sending it address that says "noreply" I bolded the section which asks for feedback but does not provide link to do so.
My reason for uninstall is that the method for throttling (3 seconds 100 percent, 2 seconds 0%) makes my computer cycle high power mode on and off in 5 second intervals. This would make the fan cycle high and low and high and low in a maddening array of noise changes. The only solutions I could find was to set my machine to high or low processor speed, which limited its usefulness to me as user. Well, I'm sorry to see you go fuzbears - although in the three weeks you were contributing, may I ask as to what you did to try and resolve the issue of the cycling fan? (I ask, as this appears to be your first posting on this forum).
----------------------------------------In the Device Profile, there are 5 settings which may have worked; * Standard Settings: Set my profile to the standard settings * Minimum Impact: Set my profile so that it will have a minimal amount of impact on my computer * Maximum Output: Set my profile so that it will do the maximum amount of research possible on my computer * Power Saving: Set my profile so that my computer's power settings can take effect * Custom Profile: I will customize my profile using the advanced options and settings, and specify the science projects to run on the associated devices. Also, there are other tools available that may also have "smoothed" the throttling out. One which I use, is TThrottle - and that, for me, works extremely well. As I'm sure you're aware, there are many thousands of people who are not only contributing to WCG, but to the numerous other Distributed Computing projects that exist all around the world, and as such, there is a lot of help/advice that's available to resolve virtually any issue that may arise. Particularly so on this forum, as it's extremely active. I hope that you reconsider your decision to leave, and ask for help/try different things out. You never know, they may just work ![]() ![]() |

fuzbears,
gb009761 has said it all, the BOINC throttle function has a career of long lament **, so the recommended TThrottle is Thé solution for those running on Windows systems with a temperature problem. Plz come back and try it out. --//-- ** It's due the single source coding that is used to compile BOINC for all OSses one can think off, else developers probably would have adopted the TThrottle functionality of temp sensing into their code. |
