Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

When a positive mood settles in, the stresses of life can be
forgotten for a while.

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued

-Robert Frost

With Valentines Day approaching - wishes for many beautiful days ahead! rose

How do you post a picture? I click on image but it gives me a field for a URL, I guess - I'd rather post something from my computer (I don't have a website), but even when I put in a URL, all I see in Preview is that, no picture.

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

Unfortunately only from a url to another site - saves the storage space and bandwidth for the Science. I think it may need the http:// bit in front

Happy to host them for you William if you could drive an ftp client like coreftp or cuteftp

My email link is in my sig below. I can set you up an account and ping you back the details - no problem. Pretty much guaranteed to be sticking around given what my box of tricks is doing.

I'm glad you are feeling better today Beverley

I haven't seen the snowdrops as yet this year - maybe I've had my eyes shut.

Valentines ..... mmmmm

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

song lyrics can be poetic even if not officially poems

My Father
Words and Music by Judy Collins

My father always promised us
That we would live in France
We'd go boating on the Seine
And I would learn to dance

We lived in Ohio then
He worked in the mines
On his dreams like boats
We knew we would sail in time

All my sisters soon were gone
To Denver and Cheyenne
Marrying their grownup dreams
The lilacs and the man

I stayed behind the youngest still
Only danced alone
The colors of my father's dreams
Faded without a sound

And I live in Paris now
My children dance and dream
Hearing the ways of a miner's life
In words they've never seen

I sail my memories of home
Like boats across the Seine
And watch the Paris sun
As it sets in my father's eyes again

I've been to France (Lyon, once), never before to Paris, but that's about to change - my wife and I are off to Paris and Lyon Thursday - she speaks fluent French...tartes and chocolate, Valentine's Day...we rented an apartment on the north end of Ile Saint-Louis, right on the Seine and directly across from Notre Dame. In Regensburg, Germany, we stayed in a hotel directly across from the main cathedral - oh them BELLS! Those suckers are loud! Blasted right through my earplugs.

Beverley it certainly looks like we have another committed romantic onboard

"Parisienne Walkways"

I remember Paris in '49.
The Champs Elysee, San Michelle
And old Beaujolais wine.
And I recall that you were mine
In those Parisienne days.

Looking back at the photographs.
Those summer days spent outside corner cafes.
Oh, I could write you paragraphs,
About my old Parisienne days

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

From the pen, and guitar, of the great Geordie Poet, Mark Knopfler

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-G-GHTFoX4

Romeo and Juliet

A love struck Romeo, sings the streets a serenade
Laying everybody low, with a love song that he made
Finds a street light, steps out of the shade
and says something like, "You and me babe, how about it?"

Juliet says, "Hey it's Romeo, you nearly gave me a heart attack"
He's underneath the window, she's singing, 'Hey la, my boyfriend's back'
You shouldn't come around here, singing up at people like that
Anyway, what you gonna do about it?

Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start,
And I bet, you exploded in my heart,
And I forget, I forget, the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet

Come up on different streets, they both were streets of shame,
Both dirty, both mean, yes, and the dream was just the same,
And I dreamed your dream for you, and now your dream is real
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals?

When you can fall for chains of silver, you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin, yeah
Now you just say,
"Oh Romeo, yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him"

Juliet, when we made love you used to cry
You said "I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die"
There's a place for us, you know the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet

I can't do the talking, like they talk on the TV
And I can't do a love song, like the way it's meant to be
I can't do everything, but I'll do anything for you
I can't do anything except be in love with you

And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
All I do is keep the beat, bad company
And all I do is kiss you, through the bars of a rhyme
Juliet, I'd do the stars with you, anytime

Juliet, when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die
There's a place for us, you know the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet

-

And a love struck Romeo, sings a streets a serenade,
Laying everybody low, with a love song that he made
Finds a convenient street light, steps out of the shade
and says something like, "You and me babe, how about it?"

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

d oh dough

There are another couple of tunes hiding in that verse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFdzJ0j8lYo and
based on Wills finest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SQ4ogstDVE#t=31

It rained at the weekend...appropriately, so I made the best of it. Here's a pic with literary connotations

There has to be a poem hiding in those gothic arches, flying buttresses and lost vaulted ceilings

"It is a most noble ruin, of immense size, and full of beautiful and romantic bits"
