Winding down a load of machines as they will be deployed elsewhere and am going on holiday for 3 weeks at the weekend so hopefully no-one turns off my remaining PCs while I'm gone!

Winding down a load of machines as they will be deployed elsewhere and am going on holiday for 3 weeks at the weekend so hopefully no-one turns off my remaining PCs while I'm gone! Shame to hear that. I am also on holiday next week in a remote cottage in North Wales so are likely to be out of communication. Fortunately most of my machines will be left running. Enjoy your holiday and take care.

Enjoy your holiday, DanielMan! And whereabouts are you going, crooks_uk? I'm originally from North Wales, it's a very nice place with lots of "remote" places to wind down and relax! ![]() Just North of Snowdonia National Park. I will post details of the exact location tomorrow, as I can't remember the name, nor pronounce it for that matter! Not being from Wales, I can safely say that I will be visiting lots of places, the names of which will always remain a mystery to me! Please feel free to recommend any good places worth visiting. ![]()

Good evening all, Have a mild overclock on the new Haswell i5 4670k. Benchmarks give me 4268 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) and 11301 integer MIPs (Dhrystone) per CPU at 4.1 GHz I now have an overclock running on my older Ivy Bridge i5 3570k. Benchmarks give me 4,065 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) and 10,057 integer MIPs (Dhrystone) per CPU at 4.3 GHz. The Ivy Bridge is still slower even when running 0.2 GHz faster than the newer Haswell.

crooks_uk, Intel do seem to be making quite useful incremental improvements to their processors, even though most of their efforts are on the iGPU. Good to see you and themooncrescent hitting the 100M points mark for the team, with DanielMan joining us soon the way he's going.
I'm also looking forward to seeing the results from Thargor's new behemoth - I'd love to have something like that humming away next to my desk. I hope you and DanielMan enjoy your holidays. Being in Reading the Brecon Beacons are a short blast down the M4, and have been my playground for hiking and biking for years. I don't get north to Snowdonia often, but head for South Wales whenever I can. |

Please feel free to recommend any good places worth visiting. ![]() I'll try, off the top of my head, but it's been a fair while since I've been anywhere other than visiting my parents for a while... - Snowdon itself, for some awesome views and walks - Blaenau Ffestiniog, for the railway and slate-caverns - Portmeirion (just outside Porthmadog), to see where the original Prisoner TV series was filmed - plenty of good beaches, castles and other landmarks over on Anglesey, plus the town with the longest name is always interesting to see (especially the railway station name-sign) - and yes, I can say the name in full! ![]() - there's also Bodnant Garden, 80 acres of picturesque National Trust gardens surrounding Bodnant House, an 18th century mansion. I think that about covers the places I can remember, for now... ![]() |

If you're climbing Snowdon and feeling brave, try Crib Goch. Not for the faint hearted, but reminded me a little of Angel's Landing in Zion National Park, Utah - narrow ridge you wouldn't want to fall off.

I climbed Yr Wyddfa via Crib Goch, Crib y Ddysgl and Carnedd Ugain exactly two weeks ago with my nephew. If you enjoy scrambling you'll absolutely LOVE that route. You could even complete the full Snowdon horseshoe and descend via Y Lliwedd. It beats any other route I've ever done in the UK.
