In a discussion on What's the optimum number of available projects? started by UK team member gb009761 ,
----------------------------------------jhindo [Chief]World Community Grid Admin has posted: I like your rational, gb009761, about how many active projects we should have at any one time. The reality is that we don't typically set a min/max for the number of projects. .On the maximum side.. I'll admit having 10-12 active projects did stretch our capacity to bring on new ones, so we may have to think twice before expanding so quickly next time :) As to setting a minimum.. we go through a lengthy process to review proposals, evaluate the merit and feasibility of a research project, etc before agreeing to bring a project on board. We wouldn't want to abandon those checks just to increase the number of active projects. Also, we will only run work for as long as the researchers are getting value from the results (and not just for the sake of keeping a project active). Yes, we are down to a few active project right now, but that's only a temporary situation. |

A BETA test for FAAH using VINA has been launched!
---------------------------------------- OK it's not a new project but on the other hand I think it indicates that FAAH is going to continue running for quite some time. There's also the opportunity to make progress in obtaining those oh so rare BETA badges! ![]() [edit] The runtime of the BETA FAAH WUs is ~ 1hr! It will be interesting how this translates to the production WUs. The size could be x2 or x4 and it would still be the shortest WU since the water projects finished. As such I think it would be very popular with those crunchers who run less than 24/7. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Jul 9, 2013 10:36:00 PM] |

Nice, 2 pages of BETA work-units in progress! I might actually get the first badge for it. finally! ![]() I think this partially explains the dip in the team's performance yesterday. The team had no BETA WUs validated before close of play (yes I'm listening to BBC TMS ).The other factor might be that not all our members are connected 24/7. With WCG down ~12hrs yesterday, it may be that some of the part time crunchers missed their window to upload. |

Hmm, despite having 4 beta-workunits on the machine I'm looking at, it's prioritising standard FA@H workunits over them, it seems. Thought it was supposed to be the other way around?

@ Thargor
----------------------------------------Check the Deadline on the FAAH WU's. If it's 4 days then they're rush jobs and will run at the same high priority as BETA's. It's a consequence of the machine being listed as 'reliable' - history of WUs being returned within 48hrs. |
