Re: UK

Morning All!

A nasty gout attack has kept me off my bike for the last couple of days, so I've been unable to do my bit for the environment (and my fitness plan) and have been driving my less than economical motor into the office... fortunately, it's only about 8 miles from home - don't tell Sek!

I don't foresee a specific gout-related project coming any time soon, but if there is any way of tackling arthritis in general then I would be keen to support that.
Last week I copy posted a WCG Admin post which amongst other things said:
And we will review the input on expanding our badge offerings.

If badges are your "thing" the responses to the original post here make interesting reading (notable for a lack of the mud slinging in past threads shock ). Good to see UK team member gb009761 leading the way with some thoughts and some historical background. smile

Back in the middle of last year (I can't find the thread now), they asked for input from us regarding badges and we all gave some really good ideas... and nothing was done regarding those ideas, they have been talking about increasing the badges for more years than I can remember and still nothing.. I would love to see extra bagdes bought in (Snurk managed it on his Sig's), and I don't see that it would take a lot to do it (users have already offered to do the work for them around the new badges and so all they have to do is make the final change in coding and allow it to go live), yet still nothing.

It sounds like great news at first look, but having heard it soo many times before, I'm afraid I'm of the mind that I'll believe it when I see it sad .
My 2-pence on this is basically in a couple of areas:

1. A "has contributed" badge, for those who have had a valid WU on a project but not got enough for bronze... it could be white or transparent, but would be particularly beneficial to those who are contributing to the BETA project to show that they are contributing in the early days (or in my case, early years).
2. Add additional badges for the "super-crunchers", continuing the natural doubling requirement for the next achievement - implement 4, 8 and 16 year badges (a personal motivation for me again is that I have 4+ years on FAAH and HPF1).

Aah! Groups only indicate activity and are still a WIP but essentially it's something like:

Grp1 Validated results on at least 85 of the last 90 days.

Grp2 70 of the last 90 days

Grp3 Everyone else (except Grps 4&5)

Grp4 Active in 2013 but not in the last 7 days.

Grp5 New members and newly active members previously Inactive since prior to 2013.

The allocation (except Grp5) is dynamic and changes as the month progresses. Grp5 are reallocated at month end.

There's still a subjective element to cope with system problems and I don't propose to publish the allocation of members to groups. Suffice to say that almost all the forum regulars are in Grp1.

In terms of assessing the daily reports Grp1 should be at or near to 100%. Grp2 >85%. And if Grp3 is >60% it has the potential to be a very good day.

Re: UK

Getting closer to Results #5000. Unfortunately missed it again this morning as PV que (as yesterday afternoon) rose much more than were validated (only 56 results validated this morning sad Shortfall this morning prior to midday update was 82 (34,019 (#5,015) against 34,101 (#5000)). Now shortfall 35 (34,075 (#5,010) against 34,110(#5000)). Hopefully tomorrow whistling

Hmm! thinking

It's a step in the right direction though I'll reserve unqualified approval until I see the form that the survey takes. Will it be a full-on solicitation of the views of members, allowing free-form responses or will it be a series of preset development options to be ranked in order of preference?

From a personal standpoint one improvement I'd like to see is an upgraded/updated Forum software! There are other internet forums which are light years ahead of the mvnForum 2008 build. The Excel Help forum for example has a feature to allow problem spreadsheets to be uploaded as an attachment. How useful would that be translated to a feature allowing upload of an Event Log or Result Log??

WCG also needs to look at how it communicates with members. To receive the survey, you need to have selected to receive informational emails from World Community Grid should be amended to a default "opt-in" for a start. Important messages need to be highly visible to (active forum) members. The announcement of the survey at least has its own thread. But it's in Official Messages. I suspect the I'm not the only one who logs in straight to the Recent Threads and hardly ever look at the Forum Index. Hence I misssed the original post (thanks to TMC for reposting). Previously important WCG generated information has been buried in innocuous threads.

I'll stop there, put the soapbox away and await the arrival of the survey. wink
