The stats later this evening could be interesting I agree! Comparison of morning crunching:

And, themooncrescent, I've noticed that play.com hasn't been great for quite a while, anyway; I've been using Amazon for ages, after noticing play.com was veering more and more towards a "marketplace" system. I can't say I've noticed, their delivery times where always bad (usually 5 working days to get to me vs Amazons 3 days), prices have increased slightly, but with the Vat Free element gone, I expected that. Their tracking for cashback was splendid (usually 1 hour to show up), whereas Amazon only work with Nectar Points Website and take 45 days, if it tracks at all , and then they introduced Playpoints which has fully and part paid for 2x brand new Blu-rays & 1x 2nd hand DVD.A real shock to me and I fell sorry for all those that have lost jobs as well... They won't do well with just Market Place, Amazon & Ebay will eat them alive, I can see Play.com quietly dying in the next 2 years ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Once again what I consider an important post from a WCG tech is lost in the middle of an existing thread!
---------------------------------------- knreed World Community Grid Tech Jan 10, 2013 4:49:47 PM I've tweaked a number of things and the backlog for hcc1 validation is now only 47,000 workunits and getting smaller. The processes that delete files on the server after archiving the good results and the processes that delete records from the database are ~1,000,000 records behind but also catching up after the changes just made. The database itself is about 158GB and it is running on 64GB of RAM. We will be increasing the database server to 128GB of RAM. The storage for the database server is on a shared SAN device with 15k RPM disks in a RAID 5 config. We will be looking things over in detail over the next few months to determine if we should get our own dedicated SAN device and put the databases on SDD drives in order to ensure high performance over the next several years. We will also be looking at replacing the db servers with more powerful servers that can have up to 256GB (or more) of RAM. However, these types of bigger hardware purchases take much more time to review, approve and install (i.e. many months). |

@ themoonscrescent
----------------------------------------re your GPU app_info query. Did you check out the skipper's post here ? It worked for me though my Graphics card is not good enough to warrant running 2 GPU WUs at the same time. I think Thargor might have used it as well. @ Ian_UK Good to see you browsing the thread. @ themoonscrescent re your GPU app_info query. Did you check out the skipper's post here ? It worked for me though my Graphics card is not good enough to warrant running 2 GPU WUs at the same time. I think Thargor might have used it as well. Cheers for the link, but that is for App_info, my querie is/was for App_config which is a option only available in Boinc 7.0.42 & higher (App_info doesn't work with these versions). It's reportedly a better and safer way of controlling projects but there is a distinct information gap on getting it to work properly (the do's & don't's), for me anyway. I do appreciate the links though ![]() Edit: Thats 39 years for the Team ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by themoonscrescent at Jan 11, 2013 2:27:57 AM] |

The link in his post, however, details how to make the GPU-tweak with app_config.xml in the later versions of BOINC:

I didn't read far enough down to notice that, but in any case it only answered 1 of the questions I asked, cheers for pointing it out though.

After various configurations, I am disappointed to report that my only GPU does not like running more than one workunit at a time.
