Pretty amazing as I live in Laredo Texas which if you check for the hottest place in the country this time of the year and then again in the fall it is us! Hot usually implies clear sky's which they are, no fog (what ever that is!) yet no solar options like you all have in California! Started building a new computer with i7 2.83. 2600 series which was too inexpensive to pass up. Will take a while but will get it done. I think what's different in California is that the state gives tax incentives for alternative energy. Because Sungevity owns the equipment and leases it, I think that they are enjoying the tax benefits and can lease the equipment at lower rates than they could otherwise. I'm sure they're only passing on just enough of the savings to have a competitive edge with the rest going to profit but that's the idea for them. You can get solar in almost any state I expect but not as cheaply. You have to look at it in terms of how much power you can get from your panels and your utility savings from that versus the cost of the system. I don't know if there are companies that lease elsewhere like Sungevity. |

I am going to be out of pocket for a couple of days so you will not see the Good Morning Message (probably) for a day or perhaps two. Everyone do good for people and have great days for yourself.

I have only tried Tequila once, a single shot, but I am not much of a drinker so I cannot appreciate what you guys are saying. And at 68 I don't think I want to get into it. I am running only HCC at the moment, but based on what I have been reading, I think I will give DDDT2 a shot. I may add some new crunchers once I find out how my changes to solar work out. I have had some question about that since I live close to Monterey and we get fog or clouds that might make it so solar won't wotk so well. I will see. I was surprised when I read solar is not an option in Texas. Well, I'm speaking only in terms of prehistoric times for me. Back then, I had tastes for Guinness Stout (loved it ice cold when pigging out on pizza though nothing beats getting a pint of it in a Dublin pub), Chivas straight up, and potato vodka straight out of the freezer. I've long since lost any and all of my alcohol tolerance! We're all young and wild in some way at some point in our lives! With your remodel and plans to stay put for a good long while, the solar will be worth it. Electricity is not very likely to get cheaper. ![]() |

Gerald are you scandanavian? Tough fighters especially in WWII as I remember reading! Norwegians held off Russians for a while! The Norwegians fought the Nazis, who were interested in Norway both for its coast on the North Sea and its heavy water supply. The Finnish were fighting the Soviets. But then, Finland is not considered part of Scandinavia by most Scandinavians. - D (Part Scandinavian) |

I think the Soviets did gain a little bit of territory but the Finns made it expensive real estate. You've been a tad quieter lately. You got a big project or are you just a victim of "work/life integration" (aka your work is your life)? |

The Finns were vastly outnumbered yet held off the Soviets for quite a while, until a peace treaty ceded some territory and economic tribute to the Soviets. I've been stuck in all work / no life mode for a while. Looks like it may continue a bit longer. I've got some parts to create a file server with (a.k.a. cruncher with more than one HDD). Haven't had time to put it all together and get it working. Maybe for summer, especially if we have a mild one like last year. It's been good to see the numbers the team has put up lately. - D |

Hey GeraldRube, I am glad to see the links in your post. It looks like overclock.net has some good information to bring me up to date. I still have problems with setting up a password for working wireless. I want to have one at least one of my machines working with the HP printer/copier/fax using wireless, but I haven't had time to start working on it yet; I'd like to set the laptop up to use wireless for printing as well. I don't know if your links get into wireless at all, but I guess I will find out.
Thanks |
