I'm running Debian Wheezy amd64 with BOINC version 6.10.58. This is the error I've been getting for the past month (and yes I have restarted my computer in that time):
----------------------------------------Fri 01 Apr 2011 02:44:41 PM CDT World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Fri 01 Apr 2011 02:44:41 PM CDT World Community Grid Requesting new tasks Fri 01 Apr 2011 02:44:42 PM CDT Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site Fri 01 Apr 2011 02:44:42 PM CDT World Community Grid Scheduler request failed: Unsupported protocol Fri 01 Apr 2011 02:44:45 PM CDT Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. I also reset the project, still no dice. [Edit 3 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 1, 2011 9:17:46 PM] |

Looks like you need the 32 bit libraries. This is mentioned on the page that lists minimum requirements. I forget the exact name, but it should be easy enough to find.

I can't find the page you're referring to. This: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq has nothing about the necessary libraries. And I already have all of the packages listed here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC#Ubuntu

I copied the latest ca-bundle.crt into the data directory but it's still giving me the same error.

Did you add the i686-pc-linux-gnu line to the cc_config.xml file?

BondEye,
SSL is required to connect to the WCG servers, but not the reference site. Can you confirm that you have the SSL and libcurl packages installed for your linux distribution? Also, are you able to make an SSL connection (such as in a browser) to any server with this computer? If that doesn't help locate the problem, can you restart BOINC and paste all of the messages from the messages tab during startup? Seippel |

The packages are installed. Here's what's in my /usr/lib32 directory:
/usr/lib32$ ls | grep "ssl" libgnutls-openssl.a libgnutls-openssl.la libgnutls-openssl.so libgnutls-openssl.so.26 libgnutls-openssl.so.26.14.12 libssl3.so libssl3.so.1d libssl.a libssl.so libssl.so.0.9.8 ssl /usr/lib32$ ls | grep "curl" libcurl.so.3 libcurl.so.4 libcurl.so.4.2.0 I am able to securely connect to this server using this computer in Firefox. Not sure if it's related to this? https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead,18311_offset,0#150072
Anyways, the following line in your quote: Wed 06 Apr 2011 09:45:57 PM CDT Libraries: libcurl/7.20.1 zlib/1.2.3.4 shows that the OpenSSL library is NOT loaded. It will be like this if it's loaded: 07-Apr-2011 09:35:17 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.19.7 OpenSSL/0.9.8l zlib/1.2.5 (version number may vary) |
