worried!

A few minutes ago, ZA tells me that world community grid want to access the Internet at this address which is in China (ChinaNet) :59.51.96.2:1

I gave permission, but now i am not sure if it was the right thing to do, i should have inquired more before doing this.
At this moment, i've blocked the site in the firewall.

is this a legitimate site as regards World Community Grid?

Re: worried!

59.51.96.2 is in China and is not a WCG IP address.

Re: worried!

I suggest that if you are running Windows, do a search (google..bing or whatever) for Microsoft anti-maleware. Download it and run a complete scan on your computer...just to be safe.

Re: worried!

My anti virus program detected and quarantined a file ..I have been running wcg for several years without issue, not sure if I should be worried.

Threat: Trojan.script.9349
Original File Name: wcg_gfx.state
Folder: c:\ProgramData\BOINC\slots\1\
Source: Real Time

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: worried!

slakin, it'd help if you could provide details as to what your AV program is - as then, it can be searched upon within these forums, and any other occurances checked out. This then, may throw up some settings which may need changing - as, I'm pretty sure that this, indeed, will be a red-herring.

Re: worried!

Hi, I use Rogers Online Protection which features customized security technology from Radialpoint. I did do a bit of searching before posting and did not find anything but I also suspect it was a red-herring, a bit strange to happen when neither the anti virus program or BOINC levels have been changed. I will leave the file in quarantine until/if I notice a problem with WCG. Thanks

Re: worried!

It's most likely a false positive.
Also that rogers thing doesn't seem very good - http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22547206-WAR...ers-Online-Protection-ROP

Use the free avast which is much better
Then rescan with avast.

Re: worried!

coincidentally I am getting the same thing I believe, mine like yours is graphics related, but I am using AVG Free 2011 and have been for a long time.

but mine is coming up as malware for

WCG_HCMD2_MAXDO_GRAPHICS_6.40_WINDOWS_INTELX86

I get about 4 warnings a day for the last few days, yesterday was the first day of many that I did not get a warning.

Vin

EDIT: I have found a thread here with my exact same issue.
