I had been contributing to WCG though BOINC on both my old Windows XP machine and PowerPC G4 Mac (OSX 10.5) for quite a while with no problems. I then had to replace both machines, with new ones. However since installing BOINC on my new computers the software refuses to attach to any new project including WCG. The message log reads:
Wed 30 Mar 20:53:59 2011 Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php Wed 30 Mar 20:54:23 2011 Resuming computation Wed 30 Mar 20:54:59 2011 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site Wed 30 Mar 20:56:15 2011 BOINC can't access Internet - check network connection or proxy configuration. This happens both on a Win 7 AMD64 machine and a Mac running OSX 10.6 despite them both having functioning internet connections. I have tried disabling the firewalls on both machines to no effect. I am at a loss to find what the problem is. I have no proxy on my connection and the network is fine. Any suggestions anyone? |

What Firewall do you have installed, and have you added exceptions for Boinc?

 Try rebooting your router. Check your Internet Connectivity for Windows 7. If no connection, reboot your computer. If nothing works, post your BOINC Messages tab after the reboot. Lawrence |

On windows I just have the built in OS firewall. On OSX I have the built in firewall and Little Snitch. I've added exceptions on each.
Tried to restarting both systems and the router. No luck. Are you logged on with Administrative rights?
Try attaching to another project such as Docking, to determine if this is a WCG issue or a Boinc-project wide issue. Add the http_xfer_debug log flag to your cc_config.xml file then restart your system and post the http transfer messages from the log files. <cc_config> <log_flags> <http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug> </log_flags> </cc_config> |

Yes, I am logged in with Admin rights, and I have tried attaching to several projects and it still won't work. I managed to get it running on my Win 7 machine by, uninstalling BOINC completely deleting every trace of it on my system, and reinstalling.
But doing that hasn't helped on my Mac. Although I might not of got all the files, it's hard to track them all down on the mac version. Also I can't seem to find a cc_config.xml on my Mac installation of BOINC, where would it be located? |
