Hi,
----------------------------------------Having been running BOINC on about 8 machines for several years, I'm suddenly having my first problem! I've just re-installed a machine with Ubuntu 10.10 - it's a quad core machine. Downloaded and installed the latest BOINC, run run_manager. The 'simple' interface comes up, then I get the dialog asking me if I want to attach to a project. As soon as I click 'next', BOINC manager exits with a load of errors. The full error is: 06:50:07: Error: Memory VFS already contains file 'webexternallink.xpm'! 06:50:07: Error: Memory VFS already contains file 'nvidiaicon.xpm'! 06:50:07: Error: Memory VFS already contains file 'atiicon.xpm'! 06:50:07: Error: Memory VFS already contains file 'multicore.xpm'! Unfortunately I'm very short of time to look into problems like this, so the danger is that machine will have to sit idle otherwise. Thanks. Sorry - I should have said. It is BOINC 6.10.58, downloaded from the link on the WCG website this morning.
----------------------------------------I have just noticed that the site http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ appears to be down - or inaccessible from here anyway. Don't know if that could be anything to do with it - does the BOINC manager go there to get the current list of projects or anything? ![]() (previously known as 'proxima' on SETI, UD, distributed folding, FaD, and Rosetta) |

First run run-client, but if you install from the Synaptic package manager that's not needed at all as at bootup/sign in the core client would be autostarted. See FAQ, last item: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...read,4925_offset,0#117237

Hi,
----------------------------------------Thanks for the replies, and I'm sorry I didn't follow up sooner - like I said, I'm up to my eyeballs with things to do! Anyway, later in the day I noticed that boinc.berkeley.edu was back up, so I ran BOINC again, and it worked fine that time. May be just a coincidence, I don't know - but I hadn't changed anything else here in the meantime. So, I'm back up and running at full strength again now, thanks. Tom,
Not sure the root cause was corrected **, but anyway, please edit OP post title like mine and insert [RESOLVED] in title ** I think the install with the ,sh is cumbersome, so prefer the RPM / and .deb packages in particular. The 6.10.58 deb package puts everything in the right place with one run instruction and at that is said to ''manage'' faster than the Berkeley kits. Certainly mine never failed, not 6.10.17 nor 6.10.58 on Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 Happy crunching, at full strength of course. --//-- |
