Hi gang,
----------------------------------------I have in my computer 2 different nVidia GPUs; A GeForce GTX285 and a GeForce GT 240.. I typically use the 240 to do PhysX or run a third monitor. While the 285 is the main one for gaming and general use running two monitors. My question is, will BOINC correctly use both cards? When doing any of them that use GPU (cuda) processing it says something akin to; Running (0.20 CPUs + 1.00 NVIDIA GPUs) but there is only ever 1 of those, and it never says 2 GPUs.. So, which GPU is it using? Is there a way for me to control that? I'm searching but not finding anything yet.. Can I set it up to correctly use both? I'd sure like to, as the 240 may not be anywhere as near as fast as the 285 its still processing power that's bored when not in use.. Hate for it to go to waste.. Thanks guys! It is using only the GTX285. Unless the GPU's are the same. (e.g. both 285's) BOINC will only reconize the "best" GPU.
----------------------------------------Go to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=5377 for instruction on how to get BOINC to use all GPU's. Cheers. ![]() ![]() |

Yay! Great! Thanks works like a charm.
(wonder why they don't automatically use all gpus or have some configure tool for doing that.. *shrug*) |

(wonder why they don't automatically use all gpus or have some configure tool for doing that.. *shrug*) Oh, how hilarious! You want to have this done automatically instead of requiring all those people to individually research the secret ceremony required to do the obvious? Next thing you'll want is to be able to select the displayed columns on the tasks tab, and not have to go through the select-and push-the-properties-button procedure. Just because those facilities have been available on accounts packages for years, you expect to be pampered. What next? A facility to manually select the order of WUs to be processed, I suppose. Maybe even you're one of those heretics that would appreciate having the currently-running WUs in a distinctive colour rather than the bliss of searching through the forest of part-completed work. It's maniacs like you that would want something ridiculous like having a number of generations of logfile created permanently rather than losing the history after each reboot. Don't you realise that it's better to spend hundreds or even thousands of hours explaining why the facility isn't included than it would be to waste five minutes implementing such a system. Worse, you'd have to squander ANOTHER five minutes documenting it... I'd stick to the day job if I were you. Comedy just doesn't seem your forte. |

Let's try to keep it friendly.
thanks. Jason, It's impossible for BOINC to be coded for all possible permutations, not only because there really only 3 permanent developers on the projects with very limited financial resources. The rest is all volunteers that work on the Open Source code, who then contribute this back to trunk. So here experienced volunteer Dataman helped volunteer Jason to find the shortest way to crunching nirvana. That's distributed computing community at it's finest. --//-- |

Just some sarcasm and humor from Mysteron347 :)
I think someone (sorry, too busy) could build a separate configuration program for Boinc (VB). Just a window with some configuration buttons that edit the cc_config file, for example. It might serve as a useful utility for the cc_config shy, and save a lot of questions and answers. Any takers? |

I totally got Mysteron's sarcasm.. Thanks bud, made me chuckle..
I didn't realize there was only 3 developers.. Yikes! Strikes me as a lot of work for 3 folks.. I do think Skgiven is on to something.. Is there documentation anywhere as to all the possible options for the cc_config file? |

Is it BOINC that only has 3 devs or the WCG manager that only has 3?
