Re: Transient upload error

Don't be surprised if things suddenly start going. At least I'm hopeful that with what exchange the techs had with verheyde, allows to establish some procedure that will auto-unlock these files.

Re: Transient upload error

i had this error a couple of times now, and it always solved itself litteraly "over night". hitting "retry" doesn't help at all.
but i sure hope this is getting fixed once and for all

Re: Transient upload error

The machine on which I had 2 CEP2 uploads stuck now has 3 stuck. The word "server" no longer appears in the error messages, and they now just say "transient upload error".
Stuck files:
----------
E201353_198_A.30.C22H12N4S4.132.1.set1d06_1_4
E201355_592_A.30.C22H12N4S4.318.3.set1d06_0_4
E201366_424_A.30.C24H13NO2S3.192.3.set1d06_0_4
----------
Workaraound: Switched Device Profile for this machine to one which does not include CEP2. Allowed running CEP2 task to continue, aborted all others that were Ready to Start. Final CEP2 completed & uploaded OK.
100% guarantee - no more stuck CEP2 uploads than the 3 I have already.

[Edit]: Clarification: The stuck uploads did not clear when I changed device profile, and they are still waiting.
Post was written in frustration before cleanenergy explained the reason for the problem - see below.

Re: Transient upload error

rickjb, probably not, but the way you write this, reads as if switching the device profile to a non-CEP2 including aborts the remaining RtS CEP2 tasks. Presume you did that manually.

It boggles the mind that switching a device profile for a client on the website released the uploading or cleared the file locks on the result db. If deselecting CEP2 is 100% no more stuck uploads, for CEP2, then tongue in cheek, yes, fixes it permanently. ;p

Re: Transient upload error

Hi everybody,

First of all, we apologize for the late reply to this thread – we were very busy trouble-shooting.

The reason for the recent upload issue is that one of our servers caved-in twice - last week and today. All uploads which were in the process at that time got locked and are stuck on the host machines until we delete the incomplete part from our storage array (thanks to the IBM team to pointing us in the right direction). Please send us the names of stuck wus as they appear in the message trail (there is unfortunately no automatic way to solve this).

The underlying reason for our server to falter is that we approach capacity on ‘Ms Piggy’ (we are at 94% now). Bookkeeping of the file system gets exponentially more expensive, and it got overwhelmed by the load. Our new 90TB storage array ‘Jabba’ is not operational yet because we are still waiting for a custom made wire-harness. But we found temporary storage here at Harvard and are in the process of moving data off ‘Ms Piggy’ to have it function properly again.

We are very sorry about this problem and apologize for all the inconvenience.

Best wishes

Your Harvard CEP team
