Will this software work at just the command line? I don't run a gui in linux.
Thanks, Jordan |

Yes, then use boinccmd to get the bearings on progress or pass the instructions... OR, use a remote machine with GUI and then connect from there. Requires some reading of the ''famous'' manual.

I've been looking for this famous manual, shouldn't there be a link to it somewhere on the linux download page? Would make sense.
Thanks, Jordan |

Yes, it works fine. I have two headless Ubuntu boxes that have been running WCG for a while.
The software comes in two parts: boinc-client is the one you want - it does the computation and can be controlled from the command line. boinc-manager is the desktop/GUI wrapper. I got mine through the Ubuntu package system: sudo apt-get install boinc-clientAlternatively you could get it from the Boinc site. Once installed, you need to attach the client to the WCG project: boinccmd --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ <account key>where the account key is a hexadecimal number you can find on this website under "My Profile". On Ubuntu, apt installs boinc-client as a service, so it can be controlled using sudo service boinc-client start|stop|statusTo keep track of what is happening, use boinccmd. Ubuntu apt puts configuration files under /etc/boinc-client and logs under /var/lib/boinc-client, depending on Linux distribution and installation method you may find them elsewhere. That's about it, I think. Good luck ![]() |

With Google it takes approximately 20 ms. With Bing it can take longer ;-)
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/index.php From there the top link to documentation http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/User_manual From there http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/User_manual Most websites these days allow clicking on the Logo which leads to the front page which often leads to many more doors. The world is your oister in that. --//-- PS, The "should" word IMNSHO could be in need of removal from the English language for all I care. |

Suggest you send the boinccmd code to "run always" as the second last line implies your system is rather busy and then all BOINC activity stops.
24-Feb-2011 12:58:34 [---] suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25 % The default 25% is a pain in the posterior. WCG actually sets default 50%, most don't need this safety though. --set_run_mode {always | auto | never} [ duration ] Set run mode. * always: do CPU work always * auto: do work only when allowed by preferences * never: don't do work |
