A suggestion that W2K be added to the list of Windows OS's that can run the client - I have been doing so for nearly a year with no problems.
I imagine there are very few of us, but every little bit helps! |

Hi,
Yes, W2K is of the same class as XP and has been a platform for a very long time on which WCG has been run. There's a rule here though. Brought a platform up in past (very early W7 and Vista days) and learned that unless WCG personally had tested this, they would not specify it in Help... but the Start Here FAQ's do make mention of W2K in places and will add it more clearly to the System Requirements Matrix which mentions just "Windows" :D BOINC is more explicitly no support for W95, W98 and WNT: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...read,4925_offset,0#105967 |

Hmpf.
The only reason my three W98 machines no longer crunch WCG is that I can no longer afford the electricity... |

@Mysteron347: AFAIK, "explicitly no support" doesn't mean that BOINC won't run on the older O/Ses - it just means that if a newer version of BOINC or WCG won't run on those O/Ses, the programmers won't fix the situation. You may or may not find that you can still run WCG under the older O/Ses, using a past or current version of BOINC.
OTOH, I would agree with your decision not to run BOINC on the older hardware that was around in the days of W95/98/ME/NT because of cost to the wallet and to the planet of electricity. |

I still have a couple of systems running W2K - 1.6 ghz P4's. I have gradually phased out the older systems as they died or the HD's went bad just because of the electrical cost per unit done. They will still crunch, but the efficiency is terrible. I could still fix them, but they are not worth the trouble. I think the slowest was an AMD K-6. W2K may old but it is very stable. Since I only use them only to crunch it really does not matter to me that Microsoft has long ago pulled support. At any rate, CRUNCH ON.
