"Watson" would have never answered this question with "Toronto???" but "Watson" was forced to give an answer in final Jeopardy. That's the way "Watson" was programmed as one I.B.M. engineer explained. So, "Watson" did not have any choice in the matter. If "Watson" wasn't programmed to give an answer in ONLY final Jeopardy then "Watson" would have remained quiet and said nothing. "Watson" obviously was unable to gather the proper information in order to give the proper answer due to "language interpretation". This is what I.B.M. stated but what is strange is that "Watson" did have Chicago as the second probable answer so "Watson" was on the right track but for some reason "Watson" placed "Toronto" in "higher probability" than Chicago.

so "Watson" was on the right track but for some reason "Watson" placed "Toronto" in "higher probability" than Chicago. Exactly, that is the interesting part. What information drove it to score Toronto Higher, even though Toronto has no airport named after a WW II Hero or Battle. They have not given any detail on that. |
