Why is this project now giving me 22 hours chunks and credit

okies I have seen that all of a sudden I'm getting these huge problems to compute, and honestly it seems like you don't get enough points for the effort in this as well as the clean energy one as well, getting 13 to 22 hour chunks of those two projects when I'm already running a decent computer here (Q9550 @ 4ghz stable and rock solid). would like to know why suddenly I'm getting these huge ones

#2 how are the points calculated? Based on gigaflops or average cpu time :S never really asked before

Re: Why is this project now giving me 22 hours chunks and credit

Hello CEP2 has work units, which run 12 hours max. (After 12 hours of CPU time (do not mess with Elapsed time) the computation is finished and result is returned).
HPF WU are running until complete.

Calculating of credits is quite a science, but very simplyfied it depends on CPU benchmarks (done by your BOINC client), runtime spend
and credits granted to your wingman(s) - both of you get average.

Hope this helped.

12... CPU hours to be precise. Had 2 the day before that ran 18 hours wallclock and longer and were restarting unseen to me, then were both server aborted with only 10-30 minutes of real computing time to them, so are we talking CPU or Elapsed time?

HPF2 is highly Non-Deterministic, some long and short is seen within short periods. A quorum review on the result status page will tell how the close-by seeded wingman were doing.

BTW looking in the CEP2 Result log can be devious. You see the actual time per the system and the CPU time in there.

Really only took 463 second before the server send a message to go south.

Credit/Points: 1 BOINC credit is 7 WCG points. 100,000 credit is 1 TeraFLOPS, but that all depends if the benchmark is properly reflecting the CPU skill, and of course that only goes for true CPU cycles given to BOINC.
