How much CPU time is actually wasted for this project?[RESOLVED]

Let me make this clear, I am not saying anything wrong about crunching this project. I am talking about the fact that this project needs a quorum of 15, yet 19 copies are sent out. When 15 WUs are returned, I don't think the other 4 are told to abort (I checked my results page to verify), so basically you are wasting 4 out of 19, thats almost a 20% waste.

Now I understand the reason behind sending out 19 WUs instead of 15. WCG wants to return the results back to the scientist as soon as possible, and there are usually 1 or 2 slow crunchers (took full 10 days) . Also with this many WUs out, there is a good chance of errors happening (I checked my results and most of them have a wingman erroring out or aborting). Couldn't WCG send out only 16 or 17 WUs and if you don't get the 15, then and only then send out more? Yes, it will mean a little bit longer delay in returning the results to the scientist, but this little change can mean a 10%+ boost in processing power (meaning more results being crunched).
Or how about if you get 15 WUs then abort the remaing ones? Also don't send out repair WUs if the remaining WU counts equal 15 or more.

Just a suggest, thanks in advance for any helpful feedback.

Re: How much CPU time is actually wasted for this project?

Hi anhhai,

please see this thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=11673 for explanation - all 19 results are required, no waste. smile

The quorum of 15 just means that the returned results will be marked valid when the quorum is reached.

Regards,
Martin
