Fro some reason, BOINC is continuing to display "Reconnecting to client." It never reconnects and no work is downloaded. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice after downloading the most recent version with the same result. Help!

Are you running it on the administrator account of the computer? If not, I've run into permission problems on regular (underprivileged) user accounts . You need to properly set them in the two boinc install files. In this case if you manually run the exe from the folder which contains the exe it still can't grab the info from the other folder that actually has the user info etc.

Hello drcheshire,
It would be helpful if you could post the Messages tab of BOINC Manager after a reboot. Lawrence |

I am running it from the admin account. If it helps, the tray icon message says "reconnecting to client" while the actual window says "connecting to localhost."
The message tab is completely blank. Nothing, nada, zip, zero. |

Even more confusing. I rebooted into safe mode and the client had no problem connecting but still has same issue in unsafe mode.

Try completely uninstalling it. Not just a regular uninstall. Use a registry cleaner and delete any files left behind by it. Then reinstall.

I'm assuming that you are running the Boinc client under a Windows installation. Please let us know what kind of machine/OS edition/firewall/antivirus edition, are you using by now...
----------------------------------------So, I suggest you take a look at the BOINC client in the advanced view, then select the Tools feature in the upper menu bar, and select the attach to project or account manager option and use your WCG ID and PW (if asked) or use the www.worldcommunitygrid.org webpage to appoint it to WCG website and projects... Make sure that you have your device manager/device profiles configurations allowing your machine download tasks from any project (according your project preferences selection and configurations preferences to establish the machine usage of resources to run the boinc client and crunch any project...). Once I saw that your ID is from 2005, I don't know if you sometime configured it or at least updated it in the last times (probably yes, you do it ! And for sure I guess that it won't address the problem and will solve it, but do it is important for you anyway once will allow determine yours machine performance and usages...). Hope that you can solve it asap. Regards.
Cheers ! GIB@

I did, even went through the registry myself and deleted all refernces to BOINC. No luck drcheshire, The key during installation is to select both the °Protected Application Execution" and the °Allow All User...° as per item 4 screenshots of this FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28971 . After, boot and the core client (boinc.exe) should load even before you log in. If that is not running, there's nothing to connect to, nor will there be messages in a possibly slow responding BOINC Manager. Once you've verified that boinc.exe running (Task Manager, view all processes as administrator), and the BM still does not connect, we'll have to consider other issues. In your next post include OS information and the messages from the top as Lawrence asked for. --//-- |

Yes, BIONC.exe is running. I am using Windows 7. I am using the most recent version of the software. There are absolutely no messages in the message tab of any kind.
In thinking about this issue, I realize that the problems began immediately after I installed an nVidia GeForce 7900 GS video card. I have done some experimentation and if I remove the drivers and reboot, the BIONC client is able to reattach, same as when I boot into safe mode. However, once Windows installs the device with the drivers it finds and I reboot, BIONC is no longer able to connect. I have tried using the drivers Windows finds as well as downloading the latest drivers from nVidia but have the same problem. In my mind this seems to suggest there is an issue between the nVidia drivers and the BIONC client but I have no idea how to resolve it. |
