I have a new Intel SB mobo that won't connect to the internet running Dotsch/UX. Windows connects fine and dotsch will connect on other machines. I'm not too prolific in Linux so I'm not sure how to proceed. Anyone have a suggestion?

You're on the precipice of ''the new deep end'', so it's others that have advanced that far to help you. Google is usually right up to date with that and SB+Dotch (2.03) are mentioned here with something referring to Network options, so guess something is there in the setup for that distro.
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-652263.html Yesterday did a Dirty Harry, Mark 2 "Make My Day" with newly burned Live CD of Maverick Meerkat over a thoroughly, not restorable network connection of the Lucid Lynx quad and it did recover most everything I'd been building up in tweaks and setting over the past 8 months. In fact, i've never seen eth0 failing on me with Linux (except if one deletes the network-manager components). Then you're in as deep a doo doo as I was ;-). |

Anyone have some suggestions on commands in the terminal window to find out why this won't work? Thanks.

The first thing I would try would be ifconfig.
----------------------------------------That will at least tell you whether or not you have a recognized device. Look for eth0. |

I'm guessing, but your IP address should probably be something like 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x. Is your DHCP working? Are you doing MAC filtering on your router? |

DHCP is enabled. There is no MAC filtering. The default gateway is 192.168.1.1 I have 4 other machines running the same flavor of Linux on this network and they connect. I'm wondering if it could be a chipset or driver issue because SB is so new. I don't know if this is relative but I did notice that the 10/100 switch on this part of the netrwork shows the 100MB light flashing when I boot to Windows but only the 10 MB light on when trying to boot the SB in Linux.

On my Linux I actually had to set the DNS servers, but leaving the IP to be assigned by the router DHCP. In the router I've set up the predesignated IP-Mac link both for the WiFi USB dongle and Ethernet/NIC.

Try manually entering the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address on your PC. Something's not working with DHCP.
