Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

Well, I'm missing 3 badges (Help Defeat Cancer, HCMD1 and AfricanClimate) so I have to wait until project #29 appears (26+1/29+1=90%) to get my own crown tongue

Same situation as you, except I need CEP1. In theory this is an inactive project and could offer work units again, so I might not have to wait for 10 more projects.

Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

In my case a quick calculation shows that Guru status is "impossible" to achieve for those like me. I will have 14 science badges in a few days for a total of 20 science projects. If we take 90% of 20 projects that is 18 badges needed. A small gap of 4 projects.
If we do the calculations then to bridge that small gap the effort will be just immense.

To be able to cover that gap I need to have badges of at least 40 new projects.

Then stats will be:

(20+40) = 60 x 0.9 = 54
(14+40) = 54

There have been 20 projects in about 7 years. At that average rate 40 projects is 14 additional years. Who knows where WCG and IBM will be in 14 years from now! wink

Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

Hypernova, I wouldn't give up hope of achieving the elusive Guru status - as I think there'll be a lot more new projects launching quicker than in the early days of WCG.

After all, scientists are now beginning to see the benefits of WCG and also, as more and more projects are rolled out, the technological challenges in doing so are lessening (i.e., once we got our first Vina based project, how many have been launched since?).

PS. After just checking back, there were only 2 projects launched in the first 2 years of WCG being in existence (HPF in 2004 & FA@H in 2005).

The GURU status is not elusive. It is really only available to those who have been here since the beginning. It really correlates to how long you have been crunching. Like Hypernova, most crunchers are really ineligible because we never had the chance to get the early badges. It truly breaks my heart. crying

Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

imo guru dosen't mean much. I run my crunchers many for the run times and most importantly the results returned status. Not really a badge hunter per se

Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

Well, today brings bad news for all those with a ! next to their globe - as, with the launch of the new project, they're going to slip back into the previous level... Sorry.

The good news though, is that those who'll now be 2 badges missing (this new project + 1 other) and have achieved the criteria for Guru status, will retain/gain that status.

I think you mean those with 3 badges missing (counting the new project) will gain Guru status when they get the badge of the new project.

It means you have to have run times of at least 14 days for 90% of the projects.

WCG was open to everyone! It was their choice not to crunch at the start. WCG started Nov 04. There are some that start in Dec 05 and have make made Guru. And of course there would be a lot more than 25 Gurus if all it took was crunching from the start!
