Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

WCG was open to everyone! It was their choice not to crunch at the start. WCG started Nov 04
I must have missed the recruitment email you sent me 7+ years ago inviting me to join. While I read the online news voraciously, I also must have missed every single one of the marketing bulletins that was carried by Reuters, BBC and AP wire services announcing the beginning of the WCG project. These would have been in the over 1200 days between the start of WCG and my start. Of course I did not make a conscious decision NOT to join WCG in 2004 because I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT (emphasis). DA. I started with WCG on the very day that I leaned about it.
There are some that start in Dec 05 and have make made Guru. And of course there would be a lot more than 25 Gurus if all it took was crunching from the start!
Please tell us what else we needed to do 'from the start', other than just crunching, to earn the badges. I was not aware that there were other things we needed to do, other than just crunching. I thought that WCG was just about crunching. The badges I have earned so far have all been earned just by crunching. What was different back then?

astrolabe., BladeD was referring to the Guru status - where, 90% of badges need to have been obtained (i.e., so as to have participated in a wide variety of projects), AND one of those badges needs to be a Beta badge of any colour (so as to demonstrate that you've participated in helping new projects get successfully launched on "the machine").

Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

As with many other things, by chance, in this case if you've not subscribed to the SNURK sig ranks, you wont be a SNURK guru, until [there are many], and to save bandwidth, mine is since last week a link rather than the image. [guru in the shades] ;D)

(if one puts th_ front of the file name, you get the thumbnail, like this:

Take out the magnifier ;P

Till then, a no contest Emerald globe for me biggrin

Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

I just realized I dropped from red globe to golden...the snail did me in. On the other hand, I should be back to red soon.

Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

I need a bath, as it explains on SNURK's World Community Grid Forum Signature Ranking page, to be a Guru, you need to meet three criteria;
* be a senior (and for this, you need to be a 6+ year member)
* 90+% science badges (i.e., now have either 19, 20, or 21 badges)
* beta badge (of any colour).
Therefore, come the 12th of April 2013, you'll have met the third and last criteria as things currently stand (i.e., depending on how many new projects get launched between now and then, 19 badges may not be enough to retain the second criteria - thus, keep crunching biggrin)

Meanwhile, I must congratulate SNURK on achieving the 600 badge level for his fantastic signature - certainly a remarkable achievement applause applause applause

Edit: after checking I need a bath's join date, added in the date when he'll receive his Guru crown as things currently stand.

As long as you keep getting badges, you will be a Guru in Apr 13!

And you proved that you didn't have to be here in the beginning to have the needed badges (since you started Apr 07, more than 2 years later)!

I must have missed the recruitment email you sent me 7+ years ago inviting me to join. While I read the online news voraciously, I also must have missed every single one of the marketing bulletins that was carried by Reuters, BBC and AP wire services announcing the beginning of the WCG project. I started with WCG on the very day that I leaned about it.

No, you didn't miss my email, but you did miss IBM announcement of WCG on Nov 16, 2004.

The badges I have earned so far have all been earned just by crunching. What was different back then?

Same as now where you have to know what to do to get WUs for a specific project.

Re: 'Globe update recognition thread'

Thanks for the explanation. I am too *young* to be a guru! I can live with that. :)
