I tried to download the wcg_bonice_6.10.58_windows_intelx86,
but it kept popping out "Error reading set up initialization file." How can I solve the problem? I really hope I can run the computiing on my laptop, too. Thanks for your help. By the way, my computer system is win xp. |

First do a cleanup with the tool somewhere on the Startbar > Accessories menu, then first download/save to the desktop. When complete, rightclick on the file and choose to process as administrator.
----------------------------------------edit: Knew there was an FAQ for this somewhere, and yes, saying the same thing as what I wrote, but please use the official MS cleaning tool. http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?view=532 Will add this to our FAQ index, for the next victim needing to do some disk-housekeeping first ;>)

I used to keep the Microsoft cleanup tool on my desktop, but that went away during a rebuild in October. Looking at the Microsoft site, I find an announcement ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 ) dated 22 Nov 2010 that says that the cleanup tool was removed from the Download Center because it sometimes damaged the OS.
----------------------------------------Better look for a different install cleanup tool. Lawrence Added: Here is a possibly helpful article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651/ Here is some unknown (by me) software that might be useful. I am not making any recommendations. Lawrence,
----------------------------------------was talking about the one that IS on the Accessories > System Workset in the path %windir%\system32\cleanmgr.exe. Type cleanmgr in the Startbar search box and it should appear. Cleans up the disk, temp files and all that crud, doing nothing to the registry. ciao

Many thanks for all of your help.
