confused Missing after hours work?

Hi all!

I've been running SETI for years (don't hurt me!) and decided to help out here while SETI is down. I installed 6.10.58 on a 32bit XPSP2 machine, fired it up, it grabbed two WUs and off to the races, or so I thought. I noticed the WUs weren't moving real fast, so I went and looked at the preferences, without finding much. Then I noticed the WUs are NOT running when I am logged off. SETI would take over the machine when I logged off for the day and crunch until I logged back in or whenever I was gone for half an hour or more.

I haven't seen anything strange in the event log. The settings look right. The install seemed to work OK. It *is* crunching through units, but only if I allow them to run when I'm logged in. I've read through the parts of the FAQ and back through August of the form looking for an answer. What else should I be looking for?

I'm baffled... Thanks for any ideas.

Firstly, welcome LiveSimplyInTheCity - it's good to have you here biggrin

Are any of your workunit's running in High Priority status? (i.e., does BOINC think that they may not meet their deadline), as I thought that was the only reason why they'd swap...

Re: Missing after hours work?

Not really baffling and thank you for joining WCG. Since we found the Alien's children in Mono Lake and we know that Rasputin had not Phophorus, but Cyanide in his genes, we need not look further... just aim that antenna at Arnold and he'll tell you he'll be back fighting the Predators, to be read as Pre-date-ours ;>)

First stop, go to your activity menu and select "Run Always". Then I'll leave the tweakable options part to other members... hint, there's one that even after multiple requests has not been added to the client prefs, but exists on the My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile > Custom pages, which will put a client to sleep if user inactive :D

Re: Missing after hours work?

Well, I had hopes that this would be the solution, but alas, my tin foil hat must be redirecting positive as well as negative alien thoughts. I still can't get WUs to execute after I have logged off. As soon as I log in, they start right up.

If this isn't the right place to be asking, please direct me. I'd like to get this machine cranking away nights and weekends when I'm not using (and not cranking when I am using it!). Somehow, it's exactly backwards of the way it used to behave.

My prefs file is below. Below that is a chunk of StdOutDae.

Anything else I should check?

Re: Missing after hours work?

OK, you gave the answer I think. You're logging out, rather then hitting the Windows-Key + L which locks your session. You've not installed BOINC as a service, thus a regular user app as BOINC is then regarded, will exit too. The give away is this line:

10-Dec-2010 06:25:37 [---] Running under account JAA04

A service install will show this as service & user:

30-Nov-2010 13:45:04 [---] Running as a daemon
30-Nov-2010 13:45:04 [---] Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC
30-Nov-2010 13:45:04 [---] Running under account boinc_master

Want it as a service/daemon/protected mode app.... then uninstall and reinstall making sure to opt that in + all users, so you have access too. You can safely do this (99.99%) without loosing the current jobs. Given the tin foil hat factor of 0.01%, you could also stop work fetch, finish all thework and then do the un/reinstall.
