Tried about everything setting in ubuntu and the bios AFAIK but ubuntu is throttling my cpu's one one of my boxes. Here is the system:
----------------------------------------2 quad core 2.66ghz westmere processors Super micro X8DT3 12gb ram. Ubuntu 64 Tried with hyper threading on and off. Changed settings in bios to lock the processor to max frequency and unlocking and setting the freq myself. Am thinking there was a thread on this awhile back but couldn't find it. My other 2 crunching boxes run the same OS and no problems. Is there a command in Ubuntu to enter in terminal to run max speed all the time? My temps are good so don't think that's the problem.

Check that it is not overheating (lose heatsink or dead fan); these i7's throttle back if they get too hot. Sorry, only thing I can think of.
Is it 10.10? |

These are xeon processors. All temps normal. All fans working fine. Running 10.4 lucid.

Right click a clear area of the panel bar > select "Add to Panel" > choose "CPU Frequency Scaling App". Once added to the panel do a normal click on the new icon and choose what fits you best... the maximum GHZ that's listed for instance.

Sek, did that already. Tried both ways in bios, locking and unlocking. Also tried setting for max performance and at top freq. Still does it.

Hi Bearcat.
If you have tried disabling SpeedStep in the BIOS then i don't think it's Ubuntu down clocking the CPU. |

Look over this page. It may help.
----------------------------------------http://www.pantz.org/software/cpufreq/usingcpufreqonlinux.html Edit: Keep in mind that on some bios if you disable speedstep it will default the CPU to the slowest frequency. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 3, 2010 2:26:59 AM] |

Having some serious issues with it now. Going to finish my wu's and upgrade to 10.10. Started when I loaded the ati graphics drivers yesterday. Tried deleting but think I got rid of to many drivers. Cpu's are all over the place. That's what I get for messing around I guess. Should have left things alone. Was trying to get the ipmi sensors to read. Worked past couple days but today went haywire. Hate to back to win7. Crunched more with ubuntu than win7 in a 24 hr period.
