Just recently I had 2 results for CEP2 where I wondered how the points are really calculated.
----------------------------------------Example 1: E200652_ 343_ A.27.C20H12N4OS2.132.4.set1d06_ 0-- 635 Valid 28.11.10 11:28:37 29.11.10 12:51:09 12.00 110.6 / 139.6 E200652_ 343_ A.27.C20H12N4OS2.132.4.set1d06_ 1-- 635 Valid 28.11.10 11:24:45 29.11.10 12:15:39 8.09 192.7 / 159.6 <-- mine The log files tell me: Wingman: [04:29:34] Starting job 13,CPU time has been restored to 37540.171875. Killing job because cpu time has been exceeded. Subjob start time = -2147483648, Subjob current time = 1088574597 [06:13:33] Finished Job #13 Mine: [07:20:51] Finished Job #13 [07:20:51] Starting job 14,CPU time has been restored to 18211.968750. [08:38:20] Finished Job #14 [08:38:20] Starting job 15,CPU time has been restored to 22737.187500. [13:11:30] Finished Job #15 I got 20.0 points more than the wingman. However, when I had finished Job 13, i.e. had more work done than the wingman, I had spent 18211 seconds, that's 27.6 points per hour. For the rest of the work, until Job 15, my machine spent another 10913 seconds for which I got 20 points, that's 6.59 points per hour. Example 2: E200653_ 140_ A.27.C24H12OS2.22.set1d06_ 0-- 635 Valid 28.11.10 14:30:01 29.11.10 14:06:28 12.00 165.0 / 206.5 E200653_ 140_ A.27.C24H12OS2.22.set1d06_ 1-- 635 Valid 28.11.10 14:26:20 30.11.10 00:08:55 11.98 283.5 / 236.0 <-- mine The log files tell me: Wingman: [09:58:16] Starting job 13,CPU time has been restored to 32911.234375. Killing job because cpu time has been exceeded. Subjob start time = -2147483648, Subjob current time = 1088426471 [12:57:20] Finished Job #13 Mine: [17:11:46] Finished Job #13 [17:11:46] Starting job 14,CPU time has been restored to 21946.078125. [20:12:03] Finished Job #14 [20:12:03] Starting job 15,CPU time has been restored to 28364.843750. [01:04:44] Finished Job #15 I got 29.5 points more than the wingman. However, when I had finished Job 13, i.e. had more work done than the wingman, I had spent 21946 seconds, that's 33.9 points per hour. For the rest of the work, until Job 15, my machine spent another 21182 seconds for which I got 29.5 points, that's 5.0 points per hour. So the question is: Why do I get only such a small point rate for the work that exceeds the wingman's work? Regards, Martin ![]() |

I wouldn't take point calculation that serious. Recently I had that WU:
E200563_ 673_ A.24.C19H11NS2Se2.10.2.set1d06_ 0-- 635 Valid 17.11.10 17:37:17 20.11.10 14:05:32 12.00 167.4 / 530.6 E200563_ 673_ A.24.C19H11NS2Se2.10.2.set1d06_ 1-- 635 Valid 17.11.10 17:31:25 27.11.10 22:14:11 12.00 167.6 / 99.5 Both tasks had the same time (and claimed about the same points)but the first one was stopped within job 15 while the second one was stopped within job 2. Only the science is important, not the points. Imho scientist should spent their time better to make the science application efficient and reliable and not so much for calculating the (more or less) meaningless points correct in any imaginable case... :-) |

martin64,
----------------------------------------Don't know, but your "per second" claim is ~ 2.58 times that of your wingman. Did your machine do 2.58 times the work for the whole duration of the task? How does the hourly grant compare to any of the other sciences on your device, specifically the zero redundancy projects such as C4CW, HFCC or FAAH? Anyway, by approximation it looks like a pro-ration based on the number of jobs+fraction completed so yours having done 16 / 29.x * 303.3 total claim, plus / minus the historic grant correction that WCG applies if there is too large a disparity in claim between 2 devices in a quorum. A 0.2 Euro cent guess.

CP, yes, that's how you showed it last time on Rice I vaguely recollect... too simple ;-)
----------------------------------------Will put it in a sample FAQ but will change the first formula to (110.6+(192.7*14/16))/2

Ah, Ok, I see how it works - and why it's not good in this project. Maybe in other projects the jobs have about the same length each, but in CEP2 the last 3 jobs are extremely long, compared to the others. So if the time would be used the same way rather than number of jobs, I think the result would be much better.
----------------------------------------@Sekerob: Usually I get around 22-25 credits per CPU hour. Regards, Martin ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by martin64 at Nov 30, 2010 8:41:32 PM] |
