Hi,
I have the following system: Boinc - 6.2.28 WindowsXP - SP3 Hw - T60 (2 cpu cores - I think :) ) Boinc processor usage settings: - while computer is in use - switch apps 120' - use 100% procesors - use at most 60% CPU time. - the rest are unset When I heavily use the processor I exit the client and restart Boinc. However, that is not my "regular" use. Usually, I don't use the CPU intensively and with the given settings, I don't even notice BOINC running. The issue is that, when the laptop is started, it noticeably delays the startup of larger apps (Firefox, Notes, Sametime and mplayer with a movie playing). When I exit BOINC (which also stops the running tasks automatically - they run at 50%), the applications become more responsive and they start-up "normally". The suggestion is to add an option to allow BOINC to start processing only after the desktop startup is complete. I know this is hard to pinpoint, but even a "start after X seconds after login" option would be enough. |

There already is an option for this., add or edit a file called cc_config.xml (placed in your BOINC data-directory). It should minimum include: <cc_config> <options> <start_delay>nseconds</start_delay> </options> </cc_config> Change nseconds to example 60 if you wants to delay BOINC to run science-application with 60 seconds each time you stat the BOINC-client. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

Hi Ingleside,
I edited the file you mentioned in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\BOINC and it works. Thank you for your help. |

Hi beach_bum,
----------------------------------------We have a much "Not Read" collection of FAQs on many matters "BOINC". One is the standard way as mentioned by Ingleside. Those having Vista and up, W2K3/8, W7 and similar can actually have a service start, automatic with delay (services.msc), but that works only at bootup. The BOINC mildly annoying way is that is every time you start the core-client, the delay will be 60 seconds or whatever time you enter. There's more smooth ways of constraining BOINC, from outside BOINC under windows. cheers and happy crunching.
