Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

CEP2 result mean times have fallen, so unless quota were increased per device through user profile adjustment, there are simply less hitting the cores... http://bit.ly/WCGART
I am not quite sure what you are measuring here, but as people upgrade to Ivy Bridge, won't that reduce the "mean times"? (I am averaging about 2.5 hours per work unit on a Core i5-3550, which is about 3 times as fast as on my Core 2 Duo for example.)

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Hi everybody,
we checked back with our friends at WCG and apparently the overall return times are also down, presumably due to the holiday and hot weather. We'll keep an eye on things and see what happens over the next couple of days.
Best wishes from
Your Harvard CEP team

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

I do not think that the problem is heat. I do think that it might be money. Everyone knows that especially basic research is under the gun to spend less and budgets are being scrutinized.

I cover a lot of ground on the ScienceSprings blog: D.O.E labs, NASA, ESA, ESO, CERN, BOINC, WCG and some universities. I can tell you that news is thin and hard to find.

If it is the electric bill, it is probably the psychology of the electric bill more than the reality of the electric bill.

If people are shutting down computing, it is money or the illusion of the lack of money that is the root cause, not heat.

I mean, you know, that is what I think.

Very likely. I think they are the major contributors anyway.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Another milestone of a different kind. Today I passed the mark of 10,000 eMails in my CEP mailbox, i.e., eMails sent or received for CEP2 during my time on the project :). Well, a lot has been going on...
