Hi there.
I just freshly reinstalled my Ubuntu 10.10 x64 install earlier today, and after downloading BOINC trying to attach myself to the WCG project doesn't work. It asks me to Attach to Project or Attach to account manager...Doing account manager allows me to proceed, but selecting attach to project causes BOINC to instantly close itself. |

How did you install it and where did you download it from?
I usually just install it by opening a terminal and typing... sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager |

Though the apt-get way seems alot nicer, didn't even know it was in the repos. lol Anyway I think I may have figured out the problem, the boinc.berkeley.edu website is offline and apparently has been the entire day. Is 10.10 working good with WCG and Boinc? Getting ready to dual boot my windows rig but if 10.10 is having problem then will instal 10.4 instead. I know what to do for cc config file so that's not a problem. It will be 64 bit version.

10.10-64 kubuntu boinc doesn't work without a manual install in my expreience on a few installs.
----------------------------------------i found i have to manually install ia32-libs and nothing i've tried gets it started from /etc/init.d seems like regardless of having a 64 bit machine bionc runs i386 binaries. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 27, 2010 7:30:55 PM] |

I have never had to install the 32-libs on all 3 of my machines using 10.4 lucid 64. You have to edit the cc_config.xml file in order for WCG to recognize ubuntu 64. First you have to chown the cc_config file in order to edit and save it. You need this line between the 2 options line:
----------------------------------------<alt_platform>i686-pc-linux-gnu</alt_platform> To chown: Sudo chown username cc_config.xml Replace user name with whatever your user name is (provided you have admin rights). Also, you will have to cd to your boinc folder in etc if you do it this way. Some folks recommend changing the file back to root but never had a problem leaving it. Don't give up on ubuntu. I went from 80 wu's crunched a day under win7 64 to 112 under ubuntu 64. Good luck.

i installed from the shar and it does ok. i686 binaries are still 32 bit though the integer mips is higher in the benchmark for the amd64 package which seems to run i686 jobs. its easy not to notice when you have ia32 libs installed say for wine or flash..
