Somtimes my neck hurts when I twist my head around all the way. True, but you meet the most interesting people that way. |

thanks, it took me an hour and a half to get out of the fetal position that those mean spirited words put me in. Sh*t, hope you know I was trying to be nice. Not the TW way to be sensitive about people talking drivel ![]() Although the TW mutants would loathe to admit it, Fannie, they do possess some "vestigal human-like emotions" and can actually feel pain. (This rare phenomenon, however, is usually only observed following week-old pizza fests: A quaint and time-honored tradition in the TW community.) When it appears that a TWer is exhibiting pain, one must approach them with extreme caution. They are very adept at using the appearance of "hurt" as a feint to lure the unsuspecting. The results can be very ugly. If it appears that the tone of a post contains sarcasm, this is "classic TW speak." The poster is (in some way) testing, or challenging you. The post will almost always have one of two possible meanings. "Weak! Surely you can do better than that." Or, "Not bad. That had some teeth to it. Good job! In either case, you are never told what the post meant. (Coddling is STRICTLY taboo in the "shark tank.") You must rely strictly upon your own resources, make a decision and counter-thrust. Ultimately, your worth in the "Tribe" is determined by your ability to see the intentions of your opponent clearly; your capacity to effectively counter and neutralize your opponent's thrust using a creative, confident and disarming style; and most importantly, without showing any signs of underlying character flaws such as indignation, self-importance, hurt, excessive anger, etc. (Obviously, anal expulsiveness is an exeption to the "prime directive.") There is an unspoken understanding amongst all TW members: "Some people get it, but most never do." So, what is this "it?" What it is Fannie, is really worth figuring out. I can tell you this, though. The worst thing Thrill could have done would have been to have posted any reply to suggest that he was truly indignant or offended in any way. Had he done that, it would have certainly triggered a "feeding freenzy" by the other TW members. His post needed to say something directly about you; and only indirectly about himself. You, in particular, might appreciate this true story. I became friends with a young man from South Africa. At times, Ian would simply look at me in disgust and say, "God. Will you just pull yourself towards yourself.'" Being a true American raised in N.Y., I knew exactly what he meant. Or, so I thought. Imagine my surprise months later when I found out that he was not telling me to have sex with my self. Actually, Ian was simply using a common South African idiom to say, "Will you just get your act together?!" Sound familiar? ![]() Okay i don't get the story at the end, sounds like ou had some magic mushies half way through your post... however the TW content is pretty much spot on. You are about 3-4 weeks of further education away from being allowed to apply for a transfer from MOT to Team TW. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 16, 2005 11:28:14 PM] |

You are about 3-4 weeks of further education away from being allowed to apply for a transfer from MOT to Team TW. Mushies are yummy, but make mine buttons. Unfortunately, as you can tell, I didn't have any. Anyone would take the words "go pull yourself towards yourself" at face value to mean "stick it." Now, even though that is exactly what Ian said, "stick it" is not at all what he meant. The moral of the story: TW member continuously challenge each other to see if the member has "his act together" enough to know when "stick it" means "stick it" and when it means something entirely different. It gets worse, though. Even though a poster actually means "stick it," no two "stick its" are exactly alike. Each "stick it" deserves a unique and appropriate "stick it" response. If you end up making an inappropriate "stick it" response to an initially inappropriate "stick it" post, then you both lose. It's time to find those buttons now. Three to four more weeks?! I'll have to go back into psychotherapy. |

---------------------------------------- The only part that makes sense is what dear old Ian told Beren, I believe he was spot one -- now THERE is something I can understand I'm also a member of TW and enjoy it, it is just that on this forum you sometimes feel that you must mix in some magic mushies. it is after all a forum for gentle beings and rightly soLeaving MOT? Ah, we have another saying for that in SA --- or is universal? Also a sign involving the longest finger on the hand [This post has been edited for profanity - nelsoc]

IBM Rochester 102,428 We were #2 in run time and results as well! Battlefield 2. Unlike any previous gen games this one will use any available ram you have or start paging your hdd incessantly. Turning the grid off frees up ~25MB which for most people makes a BIG difference. TW is a gaming site, so when a game like BF2 is released it's going to take priority. I also disposed of my trusty laptop that was just over a year old (got back what I paid for it too ROFL) so I'm down a unit. |

Ah, we have another saying for that in SA --- or is universal? Also a sign involving the longest finger on the hand [This post has been edited for profanity - nelsoc] Au contraire! But you do understand, Fannie. You simply jumped into the "fray" (really just an illusion) to see what would happen. Then you got a response which caught you off guard, followed by an explanation from hell that made almost no sense. Perfect! Now you are at the "turning point" of the script. What do you do now? Most people simply get angry, or indignant, or self-rightuous, and quit. Honk! They just lost. You chose instead, win or lose, to jump back in and have another round. You did not feel "offended," lose your balance or your sense of humor and then quit. You simply came back and gave it your best shot. Bing! You won. As to qutting MOT - never! Beren was simply issuing a "periodic performance review." ![]() You are definitely TW material, Fannie. ![]() Time to switch gears for a moment. Most of us admire and appreciate true gentleness of spirit, Fannie. It is hypocrisy, false pride and repression that we can not afford to passively accept. From Suzuki to Kapleau many knowledgeable Zen masters/authors repeatedly say the following: "Well has it been said before that 'Love without strength is weakness. Strength without love is brutality.' " The annals of Zen are filled with anecdotes about the irreverant delight Zen masters take in defying convention. They do this for one reason only. There simply is no other way to free the mind from the shackles of ignorance that prevent him from realizing his underlying fundamental unity with all things. Humility, openness and a deep regard for all living things are inherently every man’s ultimate nature/goal – whether a man realizes it, or not. A good sense of humor, balance and a quick wit simply provide a person with the legs that can help carry him to that goal. No, TW members are obviously not Zen masters. This does not mean that there is not some useful wisdom to their methods, despite the "apparent madness." Your intuition was right on the money, Fannie. ![]() [Edit 3 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 17, 2005 1:56:27 PM] |

I've already mentioned this, but WCG is "ofn" over at t-dub at this point in time. I continue to dedicate all my machines for the crunching effort, but the machines are used for other purposes as well.
As pointed out by my colleague, Geck0, TW is infact a gaming community which just happened to stumble upon WCG, so as you can see our priorities are elsewhere. We were not created to compete in any sort of online grid projects. I don't know if our history has been pointed out but we tend to find things to stomp on and then move on. We've already done it to big-boards post counts, Flame 4 Ca$h forum, the white surpremisist (racist b*stards) forum, and even a little stimping on CNN. I guess we just like to make a mark here and there... which is weird because we're not from a very prominent source of any prominent community or even a prominent game for that matter. Hell, all 3 games that our community was based on are dead, and the original and only successful one is almost 7 years old. Those of you who are not in the know, we've had some entertaining times over at t-dub including countless lawsuit threats, domestic dispute phone calls from other forum moderators to our moderators threatening family members (F4$), etc. It's not that we purposely try to piss people off (well... not always), it's just that some people can't take their buttons being pushed. The result is always worth watching. If you have not witnessed this then id suggest stopping by and seeing what sort of entertainment we can bring you. We even have a thread hall of fame section. Once again, those of you who don't mind stepping outside the safety box are welcome... I know a few of you MOT'ers have already jumped into our circle of twisted humor with membership on our forums. Welcome to the dark side ![]() |
