problem with downloading

I have a six core computer running ubuntu 10.10 and boinc 6.10.58. I have reset the project twice in the last two days as it seems to get stuck on a download. Today it download 7 work units and than it got stuck on the eighth unit. It keeps trying to download it but keeps backing off an increasing amount of time. I was getting over 30 results a day from this computer and now I am getting less than 10.

Re: problem with downloading

Hi Rick, have you actually tried aborting the WU in question?

Re: problem with downloading

I did abort the wu in question and immediately got 6 more work units. The wu were downloaded in less than 10 seconds. I have broadband but I did not think it was that fast. It still does not solve the problem of getting wu that will not download. This program should not have to be monitored by the user. I would think that if on the third attempt to download a wu it fails than the program would automatically abort the wu.

Re: problem with downloading

Rick, unfortunately this has been happening more often in the last 2 weeks. The problem was caused by the crashed of the filesystem about 2 weeks ago. The admins informed of problematic WUs. I myself have had 4 WU that caused the same problem. In 2 instances, I didn't lose any runtime. But for the other 2, I lost about a day of runtime each time (I only have 1 days worth of cache, and don't always check my systems everyday). That is a lot of runtime when since these system run 16 threads at a time. Hopefully, all of the bad WUs have been cleared out (but I doubt it since I got one about 30 hrs ago).

Re: problem with downloading

Rick, just to check - the WU's which aren't giving you any download issues, are they running as per normal?
