Can only suggest you start going around the various wiki's and 'correct' the matter... beginning here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Computation_credit What's wrong with the article in terms of terminology? They use FLOPS, FLOPs and FLOP for the very same thing, no problem with that. The only thing that is wrong is that they talk about 1000 FLOPS rather than MFLOPS in their initial definition. For the credit definition, they say: A 1 GigaFLOPs machine, running full time, produces 200 units of credit in 1 day If the factor between BOINC credits and WCG points is 7, then a 1 GigaFLOPS machine produces 1400 WCG points per day, i.e. 1400 WCG points equal the daily output of a 1 GigaFLOPS machine. It's good that the FAQ's are "read only". Look at the edit history and what it said originally... between anonymous IP editor and the last admin edit it was changed 1/100 to 1/200 and nobody notices.
----------------------------------------http://boinc.berkeley.edu/w/?title=Computatio...mp;diff=123&oldid=121 100,000 Cobblestones = 1 TFL Now I wonder... are we going to get double credit... not noticed that my latest official client is claiming more per hour, nor getting.

Look at the edit history and what it said originally... between anonymous IP editor and the last admin edit it was changed 1/100 to 1/200 and nobody notices. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/w/?title=Computatio...mp;diff=123&oldid=121 Wrong diff - you should have looked at this one: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/w/?title=Computatio...;diff=next&oldid=1126 Not anyone anonymous has changed it from 1/100 to 1/200, but the Admin. And: While the 1/100th of a day definition was based on a combination of 2 benchmarks, the 1/200 now is based on a single benchmark, Whetstone. So we end up in 2 discussion items here: 1. What is the REAL conversion rate from daily credits into FLOPS 2. The FAQ is incorrect in terms of definition, i.e. you are missing the "per day" bit, which causes confusion Regards, Martin ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by martin64 at Oct 15, 2010 6:54:35 PM] |

Read again what I wrote who done it and I did purposefully link to the original page to show what is applied BOINC wide to this very day. Maybe some inflation will strike when the new credit system comes out.
----------------------------------------The rest is semantics you can knock yourself out on... got other things to do. Not going to be changed until that new credit policy is implemented, whatever it is going to be. Now, WCG = 700,000 points = 100,000 BOINC credits = 1 TFL ciao

Not going to be changed until that new credit policy is implemented Ok, point taken, you don't care that it's wrong. But you triggered something in me that made me dive even deeper into the matter, and I think this explanation http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Claimed_Credit is a lot better than the one on the official page. In fact, in my eyes the conversion of credits into FLOPS on that official page is complete nonsense: Credits are based on a combination of integer and floating point benchmarks claimed credit = ([whetstone]+[dhrystone]) * wu_cpu_time_in_sec / 1728000 So why should it be possible to convert the credits into floating point rates? Yes, I know, you don't care. Regards, Martin ![]() |

Careful with what rumors you spread.
----------------------------------------So indeed that 1/200 change is part of the credit policy revamping, sort of a premature... to change the reference documentation imho.

Ok, point taken, you don't care that it's wrong Chill man, you sound like you are making this a personal attack. Sekerob is a CA not an admin and has no Responsibility or Authority to change anything. Use the Contact Us link on the WCG home page if you feel the need to pick a fight with the policy makers. ![]() |

And of course the FAQ is in Sek's reach of responsibility. Regards, Martin The FAQ are NOT Sekerob's Responsibility and he has often requested others to participate in writing FAQ. You may not have a clue what we would lose if he decided not to help the (often) ungrateful masses. There are only so many times that a person will allow themselves to be poked with a stick. |

astrolab,
----------------------------------------to make it clear: I never intended to write anything "unpleasant" - if you think I did, I regret. Sekerob is doing an excellent job overall. All I wanted to do is to help improve the FAQ, but there seem to be other things higher on the priority list, which I can accept. Regards, Martin ![]() |
