well, if somebody (like me) runs out of steam with WCG work, its time to try-out other BOINC projects temporarily - better than idling the CPUs ![]() Good point! Does anyone have suggestions of good projects to try -- with short-running WUs so they'll finish quickly and we can get right back to WCG as soon as it's back online? :) Malariacontrol wus run pretty quickly ![]() |

knreed just posted to the Known Issues thread... we'll be a while:
----------------------------------------We have brought the filesystem online but we aren't sure what condition it is in. Instead of making it available, we have made it read-only and we are copying the data to our new filesystem that we were in the process of creating. The copy is now occurring but it will still be a number of hours to be available. [Oct 14, 2010 11:21:45 AM] On the question of backups, my personal favs are SIMAP (presently has no work) and Docking@Home, a biomed project too, so have set clients and fetched 4 hours per core worth which will crunch if WCG work runs out.

but what's about the results who were outrunning (return time 10 days) ? will they give some points or not ? (yes i know, we crunch for helping and not for points........ )We will go in and update the deadline in the database for results that were do within the past day and next two days and extend the deadline. You won't see that on your client, but it will ensure that they get credit. |

I would recommend crunching Poem on Linux systems and Docking on Windows systems; they do good research too.
----------------------------------------Poem tasks take about 2.5h on a Q6600, and Docking takes about 3.5h (Ball park). You can always set their share on their servers to 1%. Some completed tasks have now uploaded by themselves, but so far no new work has been downloaded; Server still down for Maintenance. I keep a default cache on several bigger GPU systems but on two systems with GT240's I keep the cache to 0.01 days. I do however have those system hooked up to many CPU based Boinc projects. I have not bothered trying to catch Betas for some time. Most of my systems run more than one Boinc Project to protect against such temporary outages, or the cache is between 1 and 2 days where there is no GPU. Mostly learnt the hard way, and still learning :p [Edit 1 times, last edit by skgiven at Oct 14, 2010 11:49:18 AM] |

I have just seen in my Transfers tab that at some point since the error occurred and uploading was stopped, all of my work has started to be uploaded with approx. 140bytes uploaded.
----------------------------------------I am assuming this will not cause a problem when everything is back up and running with these results still be recieved properly. |

I wonder which is more challenging for the techs to deal with: hardware/software problems -- or impatient crunchers!

Well we already have an ''on-topic'' thread in the chat room now too... an opportune moment, there being probably 7-8 threads on same to read and see if an eager crunching soul needs clarification. Makes support easy no doubt ;>)

Whilst, I did set the clients to network based on preferences and to 23:00 - 23:59 scheduled connect time before going to bed last night. Stops the endless listing of failed connect entries. By the time they're allowed again I'm trusting all volunteers have cleared their queues and my clients having the intertube to themselves. 14 hours per-core work still left on the quad ;O
