Yes, the time is right, speculations are rife... will we be running as a 0.5 PETAFLOPS (500 TeraFlops) SuperComputer before summer 2011?
----------------------------------------The numbers as of yesterday: Last Day - 470 Teraflops, Peak 475 Last Week average - 452 Teraflops Last 3 Weeks average - 441 Teraflops Last 2 Months average - 413 Teraflops The Challenge is on... to meet and exceed our expectations! ![]()

The 60 day average TFlop curve is now definitely strongly on the upwards.
----------------------------------------Sek you must be able to compare how long it took to get the first 100 TFlop and then the next 100 etc. until 400 today and 500 tomorrow. Sek maybe you have those stats, it should show a shorter and shorter time to get the next additional 100 TFlop. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hypernova at Oct 9, 2010 3:36:47 PM] |

Sek,
You should think BIG and rename the thread the 0.0005 EXAFLOPS machine. Or perhaps the 5 X 10^-4 EXAFLOPS machine?- D |

Hypernova,
----------------------------------------The 100 Teraflop Milestones, 60 day average first reached: 000 Nov.16, 2004 100 Sep.12, 2007 200 Oct.22,2008, 13.3 months 300 Jun 20, 2009, 8 months 400 Sep 29, 2010, 15.3 months 500 April 11, 2011 Really the long summer broke the progress... we were hitting 400TFL frequently in May and then some sciences finished that seemingly lost a bunch of exclusive crunchers. If you want to run different steps, the raw history is here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewGl...mp;numRecordsPerPage=2500 As always, divide points by 700,000 to get the TFL. Meantime, the hickup on FAAH froze progress 414, 60 day sliding.

The WCG grand [once in many harvest moons] outage forced my hand to introduce the Truncated Mean method on averages as it kept rippling through alll the dashboard meters. What it brought visualized was the weekly "Hacksaw Jim" effect we have when in the weekend the high-power devices continue and many office machines are in park-mode, thus spiking the relative TFL per CPU years contributed... But this week is different... something changed since the big down. We guess, but if we ever hear from the wrenchmen in the server room... suspect also in part was those stallion clients who came back to return the results quickly, after many caches had been emptied :O
----------------------------------------For now, New record, 60 days TFL 426.8, truncated, or as MS calls the function °TRIMMEAN°ned Crunching on ;0)

Temperatures going down on the noerthern hemisphere, and 60 day average TFlop going up. The bottom temps will be reached between mid January and mid February, let's see what the 60 day average will be by end February. I'm really curious.

http://nextbigfuture.com/2009/05/from-petaflop-to-exaflop.html
----------------------------------------http://nextbigfuture.com/2010/06/tensilica-berkeley-labs-colorado.html So here's a 65,000 dollar question: If we run 450 TeraFLOPS (I've done the sums and it could be real even if one takes multiple cycles per FLOP), how many Peta/ExaFLOP (no S) have we already done since the start of WCG. Any takers on that? Based on the accumulated points, my calculator makes it 3.1e+18. How much is that in Exa... 30,000? Something for the WCG dashboard.

Calculations like this can be mindbending at times, but amazingly enough I arrived at the same answer as you did: 30788 ExaFlop as of today, or (as I just learned from Wikipedia): 30,8 ZettaFlop.
----------------------------------------This is the short way to get there: WCGpoints / 700 * 24 * 60 * 60 gives the answer in GFlop. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by SNURK at Nov 2, 2010 7:36:49 AM] |
