How is CPU Total Time calculated? Is it irrespective of processor speed? I have a quad and three duals running almost 100%; I only get around ~3 CPU days per calendar day, though, instead of the expected 8-10 days. All are running 100% WCG, one has an additional GPU.
----------------------------------------When I look at per-device stats, I see most are under the "theoretical" 100% (eg. a dual-core reports around 1.5 days of CPU crunching per day). ![]() |

a lot depends on how the boxes are being used, WCG only gets the left over cpu cycles so if you are running apps that take a lot of cpu wcg only gets what is left. cpu time is not calculated but is the actual time used by the cpu on a work unit. ideally you could get 10 days ( 1 day per core) with boxes running 24/7
----------------------------------------are all core enabled? on a quad core you will have 1 job running for each core or 4 jobs at a time default setting is to only use 60%, have you verified that is set to 100%, if you made any changes at the local level, via preferances, then any changes made via the web site are ignored. go to the local setting and click the clear button, this will load the web settings and use those Edit: I have 10 boxes (14 cores) that run 24/7, but they all have other "work" to do besides WCG, my average WCG usage is 65-75% [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 25, 2010 7:52:57 PM] |

Your computer may have been setup to use metric time, in which case the calculation will be different.

Have you set your machines to use 100% of CPU time? You can set this either on the WCG web page under Device Manager, or on your computer in BOINC Manager, under Advanced > Preferences.
----------------------------------------The default setting is that BOINC will use only 60% of CPU time, even when your computer is idle. You must change the setting if you want it to use more. ![]() |

I have indeed set my BOINC settings to 100% CPUs and 100% CPU time. Only one of them shows fair use; the others are totally idle right now. Hence my question :)

Propose you to take 4 actions:
----------------------------------------1. Pass by all your clients and set the Activity menu option to "run always" 2. Same Activity menu, select Network always available. 3. Visit the My Grid > My Projects and select All Projects. 4. Pass by all your clients again and hit the Update button in the Project tab after selecting WCG. Something should happen. Once it does, refine your research selections on the My Projects page making sure that at least generally available research is selected. (CEP2 is not for Windows yet)

On my devices with 980X EE CPU that crunch in an exclusives mode WCG I get a little over 12 CPU days per day.

Over? You must be on Hypernoval drive, that is if this is a 12 threaded device you're referring to.

Across all my machines depending on the WCG project and validation ups and downs it oscillates between 8 days and 15 days. For a machine that is overclocked at 4 Ghz with fast and overclocked ram too, and which has no other use, it would run at 12-13 days per day. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hypernova at Sep 27, 2010 7:25:35 PM] |

overclocking will not make it do more days, just more wu. while the computer may be running faster, the clock is still only 24 hrs/day. Wu done yesterday that went PV and then validated today get counted as todays time making it appear as more than 24 hrs/core/day is being done.
